Start Me Up

Great job Mr S 5, & great song choice. Were you playing with 6, or 5 strings on the guitar? We always do at least a few Stones covers & start me up is one of them. I keep a Keef style, open G tuned 5 string tele for just such occasions, or for general open G riffage. It such a great tuning. Here's that tele

Actually, now that I have an acoustic we occasionally do the original acoustic version of Jumping Jack Flash, in which case I play it in standard tuning, (though I prefer playing it electric).
Playing with 5 strings just allows you to hack away at it without having mute the 6th string. Cheers
 
Im in Ivans camp on this one. When i built this left handed Tele i bought and put together to play right handed i tuned it to Open G. It sounded so damn good i left it this way. Ivans term of HACKING AWAY AT IT is exactly why that low E string is gone.i tryed it with it one there,even tuned it to G to but kept hitting it so off it came. Sounded really good, S5. Excellent.

But, there's a bigger issue at hand that needs addressing! A new Canadian member, seems like a very nice guy, but as yet doesn't seem to have been introduced to one of the finer brands, we all know and love, a Canadian brand to boot... :p
 
Hi jtcnj On my Orange 35RT I have an axillary jack I plugged in my MP3 Player and set my Recorder about 8" inches from the speaker. I had to play around with the volume on MP3 player and guitar, so that the guitar wasn't overpowering and I was able to hear the track loud enough to hear, in order to play along.

I have a hard time balancing the volumes trying to play along through amp, listening to songs through pc speakers form laptop.
The Peavey Backstage II i have has an aux input; it needs some attention with real scratchy pots.
I will have to try that, I need to get back to more song play along, no recording for me for the time being.
 
Keith sometime plays songs in different tunings, Midnight Rambler is one of them. Usually he plays it in standard tuning capo'd at the 7th fret (easier to play it "properly" this way), but there's footage of him playing it in open G, 5 strings & capo'd at the 4th fret.
I use my 5 string open G tuned tele to do Status Quo's "Rain" (other guitarist in standard tuning). I believe that open G tuning is actually a banjo tuning.
While on the subject of tunings, I do ZZ Top's "Tush" on a (mostly) standard tuned guitar, I drop the 5th string from an A to a G. Not sure if this is how the Rev Billy G does it or not, but it works well for me. Cheers
