So how do you perform best? If it depends, tell us what it depends upon (style of music being played, auidience, venue, type of guitar, etc.).

I play better sitting. This may be a matter of habit, but part of me is inclined to believe sitting is just innately easier.

Looking forward to your responses and opinions.

I voted sitting because I play sitting -----99.9% of the time I have a very nice strap --- ive used it a sum total of maybe 4 hours in 3 years----

I should play standing more -- but-- with 2 blown discs in my back -- and 7 or 800 lbs of dogs running --playing-- napping-- fighting -- chasing a bug-- around the room--- at any given moment -- seated-- in a defend-able corner-- is best

I voted it depends on...
If I'm playing acoustic, I'm sitting. At home or at open mic's, I'm sitting.
If I'm playing electric at home, I'm sitting.
If I'm playing electric out I stand, until the scotch kicks in, then who can remember...

In general, I think sitting is easier because it puts your hand at less of an extreme angle. That's the case with me anyway. When I originally learn something, I do so sitting. Then, I stand and practice it until I can play it as smooth as when I sit.

I think the most difficult to play standing, is the low E string @ 12th fret and higher.

An example for me would be the lead from judas Priest, Beyond the realms of death. The phrase at the 3:25 second Mark was very difficult for me standing....So i practiced it sitting 2000 times, and then stood when I had the muscle memory.

(Lead starts at the 3 minute mark)

That was one of the songs I would muff up every time we played it, but I could hit that pinch harmonic most of the time on que

I prefer sitting because you'll never know when inspiration will strike...in the end...bottom line.:poo:

Even when I practice I stand. Electric, acoustic, bass, mandolin, always standing. If you want the audience to get into it it’s easier if you’re moving. If you’re going to play live standing you need to practice standing.
In addition to all the points above, I find that standing allows me to much more easily maintain proper technique and arm/wrist/finger angle to the necks and frets.

stand for live..strangely..too short for reg chairs in the studio..go to the floor & rest guitar across my my 1 knee up for full chord work,. the guitar fits me like a glove in that position. then back up.
