Standby Question

Well, that was disconcerting. Oh well. Now I really HATE top mounted controls.

Thanks for the useful link BTF

Hmmm...according to the article BFT posted, there are a few interesting observations:

1. Keeping your amp in Standby is harder on your tubes.

2. It was developed by Leo Fender, but really is not necessary with today’s components (and wasn’t even necessary back then, if he had used higher quality capacitors).

3. You should not use the Standby as a mute switch. It is not a mute switch and switches high voltages. Turn down the amp volume, instead.

4. Amps don’t need it. A lot of builders install it because buyers have grown to expect it and think it’s necessary.

I have read the same and more articles regarding standby.
I am in the camp they are unnecessary, and could do more harm than good / used as a mute / cycled on and off when the amp is warm.
I dont think it will wear your tubes prematurely.

I did not include them in my Fender circuit builds that had them.
I only use the one on my Silkyn when I first turn it on, maybe 10-15 seconds after I turn on power.
After I slide my pedal table forward and plug in my cables.

I mute with either A/B/Y pedal or pulling the cord partway out of the input.
I always unplug the power strip when done playing.
I would be more afraid of a fire than about the hurting the amp if left on or in standby.
