Sp8ctre and RVA's Guitar Adventure

As I approach the target, it is pretty clear that the FB had more than one issue. It appears it was high in the upper portion on the high E side.

If you look at this photo, you will see not only a high spot on the high E side (so that it planes over the middle), but also that the 1st fret low E side was high. Notice how the nut slot is dissappearing in that area.

Is that really the nut slot disappearing? Jeez! I thought it was just full of dust!

Well, full of dust on one side only. And yes, when I finally realized it, the slot had in fact been partially obliterated. I needed to fully re-cut 1/3 of it and then match the depth. Do not worry Sp8ctre, I took depth measurements of the nut and fret slots before I started.

This is a very interesting project and I'm very happy you took it on!

You can keep all the dust...ha ha!

I've been offered a new neck from the seller if I send the bad one back first.
He is working directly out of Miami Florida now...at least that is where is requesting
I send the neck...

Thoughts?

Does he know about the work already done to the neck and does he know it has a thread dedicated to it on an international guitar forum?
If I was him (the seller) I wouldn't take it back now. That's not a negative comment on what looks like VERY good work taking place.
If he knows about the activity and will still exchange, personally I'd like to see how it plays once re fretted, why change one that is set up for another unknown neck?

I will not be offended if you chose to exchange it. I enjoyed the ride so far.

That said, how do you know the new one will be built properly?

Thank you for the compliment gasket.

At this point I don't want to send the neck back! I appreciate all the work Ray has put in and I think it will work out fine.

I did answer his request to send the neck back stating I have already had a lot of work done on it. What I was
hoping was he would send me a new one gratis for all the trouble so we had a back up plan...

I just wanted to throw this out because it has been suggested that the seller should stand behind the bad product.

Keep at it Ray, I am sure the work you have done will stand up!

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I do think it will perform. When it does, you will have a custom, one of a kind neck!

It is straight the TR fully tightened. So i assume that you are suggesting, with full relief, keep sanding, which will create a scenario where, rather than the FB being flat, we are seeking to have the middle "proud" so that it can subsequently be corrected by the TR, is that right?

Oddly, I am only hitting the last side dot, yet another inconsistency in this neck.

So shall I keep sanding?

Could you post the thickness measurements at 12th and nut??? I am curious!!!!
