... and immediately opened it again. There were gaps at two spots of the connection. I'll need to improve (=thicken) the linings.

Luckily it all went well - just a few minor breakouts at the heel in spots where i glued in some thin repair wood that was a bit brittle. That'll probably easily be removed and glued back in place. All the rest came off fine.

Again i used my old fish knife and softened the (fish-) glue with a few drops of vinegar essence.

patience is necessary, yes. And going slow is actually more important than skills. Those just develop with experience. But isn't learning to go slow something important in this ever faster going world?

Not really beautiful, but it should work to increase the area for glueing...

Linings. Used in every guitar or violin in order to increase the glueing surface for the top and the bottom.
In this case i used little wooden blocks. It turned out almost impossible to set them evenly. Partially cutting stripes of wood will look better.

After sanding and aligning them with the old linings (which were too thin to hold the bottom reliably, at some spots just a few tenths of a mm) it looks a lot less bad. Well, they'll do their job. So i'm gonna keep them - with a sigh. Next time I'll use a different technique...

A liitle bit of cleanup on the linings.

and the body is ready to close. Finally. Hopefully ...

This morning after removin the clamps. You still see the small wooden blocks to adjust the bottom. Upon first inspection no unplanned gaps, no rattle and a surprisngly full tap tone.

The bridge height has increased - intentionally. As long as i do not know how it will come out under string tension and as long as i do not know how it will sound, i'll extend the feet of the old bridge.

As the heel has changed, the old binding must be fitted around the heel:

Done.

Nice work Dr bea, looks like the patient will make a nice recovery.
Cutting & sanding all those little blocks must have been a little tedious, but it looks like it paid off well, great job.

Extending feet of the bridge and stringing her up again. The binding around the bottom is still missing; I would like to watch if the guitar is really stable - without the binding it is easier to open in case of emergency maintenance.

And what should i say: whow, that baby has become loud! I never thought that a slim 15" archtop with a laminated top would be able to cut through, but this baby can... it is louder than my large archtops. With a "lean" bass due to the small volume, but it does the low C, a third below a guitar in standard tuning, surprisingly well.

The highest flageolets could be a bit stronger, but i think that an improved bridge can improve this as well.
