One idea for this forum was to collaborate on songs. I'll start this off. I've been playing with this chord progression for over a year now but I've hit a roadblock. Can't come up with a melody or words. The progression is pretty simple:

Amin B7 C D repeat four times then C B7 Emin repeat twice.

Did I scare everyone off with this ? :)

Here is a quick and dirty acoustic version of what I posted as the start of a song. The point of this is for others to take this germ of an idea and collaboratively we will craft a song. You can change the structure, change the key, add words, or whatever but over time the goal is to write a song. The basic idea is to walk up four tones in a scale then back down and end on the 5.

Well you did not scare me off, they sound great and I'm looking forward to taking a stab at them both. I have been so busy working on my car, being sick, working on a new online store for a customer, working on other car stuff... I haven't had time to finish putting my new guitar together let alone play. But the day will come when I'll play my new guitar and use it to add to this. Great job Kerry!!!
 
Hmm I'm hearing a bluesy style walking bassline in the first clip. It's quite melodic so I'm not sure if the structure of it is a bassline or a vocal line.
I'm thinking vocals singing a lament to a bitterly lost past, sort of nostalgic and cursing letting it slip away.
Either a fast 12/8 or 4/4 with a triplet feel. Kick drum like a heartbeat. Bam cha, ba bam cha, ba bam cha, ta ta ta, ta ta ta.
 
I would love to participate in this kind of stuff because I hear all kinds of things to add to it but being a
computer illiterate it would be easier for me to Build another Saturn V from the contents of my basement.
 
How is this intended? Import this file into, let's say, audacity, add Your own track, re-encode it to mp3 and then?

(A place to share complete audacity projects would be cool...)

BTW: the two versions of that chord progression would require quite different bass lines. I am afraid the distorted line might be a bit too fat to be supplemented by bass. I could give it a try...

That is the way that we have done it before. Audacity is a great free program that works very well for this. you can upload your MP3 here
 
I was hoping with this one for people to use it as a starting point to collaborate on writing a song. Where ever it ends up doesn't really matter. You can play along with the tracks I posted but I meant them more as a starting point to write a longer song. The other thread I started with the "Stormy Monday" track was meant as whole to use as a backing track to post your additions to it. I'm new to song writing and very interested in seeing how a riff or simple chord progression turns into a song.

It should be downloadable, if you click the "more" menu under the track there should be the option to download. If not then give me a shout and I'll put it on Dropbox.

I think this is a great idea for those who can make use of it.
I would love to participate except this is like the sign that says "you must be at least X tall to ride this ride".
I'm not tall enough.
