Now your starting to sound like one of them cork-sniffer guys that only buys 'the best', the 'most prestigious' upper end pricey gear and wheels it out post by post as if saying ''Look at me! I have expensive things!" "Your lowly mass produced amplifiers & non custom shop guitar will never be what I have! Ha Ha Ha frik'n Hardy Har Ha!" Gloat gloat gloat.. (Hey, how come we don't have a 'gloat' emoji yet??)

I'm sure your post was somehow misconstrued & meant to actually edify & uplift Robert into bettering his game in ways that I'm just missing.

Me, I'm always curious about the guys with all the top gear as in, if they are actual player performers (like Robert) or simply collectors of such gear so they can show off & rub it in the everyday common folks faces.

Nobody likes a braggart.

I would tend to believe that, especially when you point out that #215 was played by Mr. Slowhand, himself!

Of course, that fact should not necessarily dissuade Robert from appreciating his DSL, if he finds "his" sound in that amp. I'm not accusing you of trying to say as much. But, this caveat does come to mind.

Back in 2003, I bought a brand new Marshall MG50 for my students to play. It is totally silent, has great reverb and a very organic tone for a solid state...
 
I finally was able to go to my blind buddy's house to help him with carpet and pick up my Princeton Chorus.
I put the 2 Weber speakers in it and have not even played a note above 2 on my SG thru it with the new speakers yet.

I like some and I dislike some, just like tube amps. Not all tube amps are good, by any stretch of the imagination.

I could be pretty happy with a Marshall Lead 12 for an extended period of time. I just bought a Tech 21 Trademark 10. It has some issues and will be going back, but when it is working, I like a few of the tones very much. Ditto my Mustang I. Great little amp. Next major purchase will likely be a Fractal AX8.

That said, I have sold off more bad sounding tube amps than anything else.

All this talk of love and hate...sheesh...

The famous 1959 Sears Silvertone #2046. The tube amp that launched my dreams of world domination...given to me in 1970. The tubes are still original and I played through it this morning....

Impressive price tag, but rather than an $85,000 amp, I would rather establish a program that put guitars into the hands of kids who otherwise couldn't afford to have one....

I do not understand why something is more valuable
because it was owned by a famous person.
I acknowledge that this phenomenon
exists, I just don't understand it.

Is there a belief that when the famous person used the
object some of his/her "mojo" rubbed off on the object
and said "mojo" will in turn rub off on the next owner?

OK, ya got me. I'm stuck on the Late 40's -50-ish 50 watt amp with EL-34's. While I'm far from an expert, I have gotten into Silvertone amps & electronics over the years but I just couldn't think of any from that era using those tubes for power. What I remember was most any higher wattage Silvertone used some form of 6L6 tubes. And then I was thinking (dangerous, wood burning smell) that if Silvertone did use a tube like that it would probably be the American tube version of an EL-34 tube aka 6CA7.

Then that got me thinking some more,.. did you maybe mean to say EL-'8'4 instead of EL-34? But you would need 4 of them or the American equivalent 6BQ5 to get around those 50 watts. Then I was thinkin some more, (I know right?? wth? It's hurtin) maybe you was looking at 6V6 tubes which are very similar looking to those EL-34 tubes but only shorter?? Nah, again it would take 4 or so to get near 50 watts.

Then I was thinking that the EL-34 was a newer tube than the 6L6 or 6V6 and was wondering if it was even around in the 40's? Put that to bed when confirming it was first made in 1949. So that settles some mystery at least.

Well, they don't cover every model but the ones I did reference & check that had any real power were 6L6 power tube sections.

Last thought, could that amp you're talking about have been a 6L6 to EL-34 conversion???

All I am sure about right now is that I need a couple of Tylenol's from all this thread induced thinking !

Before I go I thought I would post one of the coolest looking Silvertone rarities that I didn't know about intil stumbling across it on the website. It's Silvertones first 50 watt 2 X 12 combo amp, the 1346!

That right! It wasn't even Ace Frehley's frik'n amp!
While a nice plexi Marshall in it's own right, any claims of Ace playing what looks for all intents & purposes like a Studio owned amp holds ZERO value as there is no real provenance.

Imagine the new owner trying to recoup his money using the claim that Ace Frehley played this amp in a studio.!

"err no, the guy who sold it to me said he jammed on it but didn't actually record with it on an album."
"aah no. I don't have anything from Ace personally saying he's played this amp, but I saved the ebay listing screen shot with the last owner saying Ace played this amp during some jam sessions"
