Died of an overdose...what a waste...

Tom Petty died of an accidental overdose, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The Hall of Fame musician had taken several pain medications, including Fentanyl, oxycodone and generic Xanax. Other medications included generic Restoril (a sleep aid) and generic Celexa (which treats depression).

The full story is that he’d been touring with a broken hip. He refused to disappoint fans by canceling shows to get the hip repaired. The pain had gotten unbearable. When my mom was dying from cancer the pain got so bad that no amount of morphine would make it go away. Unless we are walking or have walked in their shoes, maybe we should withhold judgement.

Saddened to learn of your loss....

Like so many problems heroin stayed in the black community. Yes it hit and killed some white junkies all along. Now heroine and it's drug store cousins are here and have been here. We are seeing a really old problem in the white suburban. The powers that be are doing another stupid job called a war on drugs and not a war on addiction. Riches to rags and dead people getting rolled out of million dollar homes and $200 a month sleeping rooms. Tom Petty is one of the thousands that didn't feel well and just went to lay down. A shame that this mess is now being dealt is handled with threats and the help parts are skipped over. I did not know Tom so how can I miss him, same as all the other I never knew. As far as I know Tom is home being Tom. I do feel bad about all of them, I met a few when I pulled back the sheet looking for John 4580xtj. He donated his body to our med school.

His family wants the story out there. They want us to learn from the senseless death. The pain clinics are disposing way to much of this stuff
and it's killing people left and right. I suffer from serious chronic back pain brought on by ruptured discs in my cervical and lumbar spine.
My doctor was trying to hand out Hydrocodone and Oxycodone like candy...as much as I wanted. But I chose and still choose NONE!

I'd rather learn to deal with the pain in some manner than kill myself...

The problem is this is a multi-billion dollar business and the pharmaceutical companies have the government in their pockets. Many doctors no
longer try to cure...they just medicate...there is more money in keeping people in pain than healing them...

LEts not forget the multi million dollar business of Tom PEtty--- I am certain many in his "camp" where trying to keep him touring....keep him raking in $$$ and keeping their jobs......(I do not know this for fact) but how many Managers and promoters have we seen ride talented stars to their demise ---while the "behind the scenes" people just hope off onto another rising dog---like ticks or fleas----

A very old friend called from California to tell me that bit of information. Tom lost count of his pills and bought a bag of The Wicked White Queen just in case. In case there is never enough pills for the 10:00 PM pill time. I don't need to know and all I know is one of my rock and roll idols is dead.
To some people his reputation is done and many people like me don't care about the cause of death.
The life insurance company might if they had a rider on his policy. At 69 Tom is gone and how it does not matter. I would just say a counting accident. I hope I go as peacefully this time.

It needs to be put out there so people will be more careful with the pain management drugs. Fentanyl was involved in Petty and Prince recent deaths.
I'm not trying to slam him or say anything negative about how he passed, but just be careful with this stuff. Doctors are handing opioids out like candy!

I have written exactly three prescriptions for pain killers in the last 23 months. I send people to a pain clinic. The doctors I work with demand their people are fully educated on pain meds. Many of these people should not have extended pain treatmen. The street sales of medicine is the root of addiction. Stolen and illegal scripts and I hate to say stupidity. They have no clue as to the power of some of these meds. Candy is all but impossible to get. I know there are doctors that don't follow the law and they are getting weeded out in fine order.

Its easy to forget these guys are just common people like us, Same things happen to them as well. Its sad that we just recognize these individuals when they die, but what, what about all those we don't know. Someones child, wife ,Husband, Grandmother, Grandfather, Aunt, uncle, Niece, you get the picture . I don't look at these famous people as Idols and worship the ground they walk on. Yes they are talented musicians, and yet there are talented musicians out there you never heard of before. To me they are just like the rest of us ordinary people with talents and everyone of us has a talent or talents of some kind. Yes its sad to see people die, for us we don't know how it will end up for us individually and thank goodness we don't. But at some point we all will die, I wonder how many will remember us.

Fame and/or money can't buy happiness.
Drugs of any degree legal or illegal aren't the answer.
Gasket, I thought I loved you. As the man said, you gotta walk in their shoes. I have been on all of those drugs, all at the same time, for my back. One day, I just quit, coz I still hurt, and said what's the point. I can't stand or walk more than 5 minutes, and you would not believe the number of people in the same position. My dishes pile up, my trash piles up, I can't get my mail, and on and on. Can't do anything. I gotta have a life, man. Going back to a diff pain specialist next week, after a year of taking nothing. 3/4 of my vertebrae are fractured, plus other crap, so I can imagine how the man felt. And I don't have the pressure to perform. For anybody. Try not to judge and I still love you.
