So Anyway...

so anyway, over the last 2 years or so, out of around maybe 18-20 packs of D'Addario XL strings, 10-46, I have had the hi e string ball pull out at least 6 trimes.
Just had another on Epi G400 set replaced mid June.

I think I read something on tinning the ball end with solder to prevent this.
I forgot when I restrung it over the weekend - I may go back and do that.

Could have been just this lot of 3 packs I bought at or around the same time.

I will stick with the Martin Darco and GHS Boomers I have also been using.

A few years ago, I bought a bulk(10 string sets) pack of D’Addario XL 10-46.
7 of 10 high E strings failed within hours of install...a couple within minutes.
The three that did not fail lasted for about a month.
All failed at the ball end winding.
That ended my experience with D’Addario strings.

Come to think of I bought extra hi e strings for 9 and 10 sets as back ups for a still good set.
I have not broken a string once (besides the ball end failures) in several years.

I was going to do that on this set, but the B and G were starting to turn black already from my son's hands.
Mine dont do that.
His play a lot better though.

So anywayz...

Did you know that the Mesa RoadKings have 14 tubes in it?

Last night at a friend's 50th birthday party, that included his local cover band performing for about an hour, I was closely checking out his Mesa Roadking II halfstack. You frickin need a PHD to operate it... o_O

So anyway, like I need more things to do that take away from the time I have to play guitar.
My son crashed his car a few weeks back, thankfully he is uninjured.
It was my mom's 2000 Mercury Sable, good DD.
He lightly rear ended a van, so the van higher rear bumper went over top of his front bumper, pushed in the grill.

He never would take an interest in wrenching, though I encouraged it often.
I wanted to tell him he is SOL, but our family situation leaves me to have a go at this repair.

Among other items, the biggest hurdle is the brackets that hold the radiator/ condenser housing; they got bent rearwards so now the mounting holes for the new header panel wont line up. Hard to get to the bolts. Finally got them out and worked them back to shape.

Finally got it all back together; he will live with the hood and headlight damage.20191006_124357.jpg20191006_124347.jpg
