So anyway . . . Tomorrow I begin volunteering at the U.S.A. Clydesdale Preservation Foundation. Just a Glorified horse farm with a 503.c charter what ever. Will be doing Barn and facilities maintenance.
Just 3 day a week 4 hours a day. Something to get me out of the house and off my arse. Keep the rust off my tools also.

So, anyway I experienced my first preamp tube failure recently.

My 18w was giving me occasional clicks and pops that seemed to be coming from v1.
touching the tube shield or wiggling it ever so slightly created more of the same.
I suspected socket / pin corrosion and addressed it but it did not improve.

Next time I set up, no sound. tube was hot, no plate glow.
swapped for a new production / known good JJ for now; stay calm all is well.

What brand and type of preamp tube went bad?
And, for which amp?

So anyway, I mentioned our horrible family trip to Florida new years week back then.
the wife and I went for a week for our 26th wedding anniv. last week.
Had a great time, no problems, flights and weather cooperated.

Did 2 Disney parks that were not super crowded, visited the Fasha- in-law and his wife, and a day in St. Augustine, along with one of my wife's Wackadoodle sisters.
Shes way out there, not in a good way; but the meds keep her out of trouble, mostly.
Whole entourage then went down to Daytona Beach by the lighthouse for a waterside lunch and a boat tour of the area.

It was a 1 hour tour; I would have been leery of a 3 hour tour.
The whole Maryann - Ginger thing would have surely spelled trouble for me with the wife.

The in-laws dropped off twisted sister and we went on our way back to Orlando.
Went about an hour south / southeast to Wild Florida and had a really nice gator airboat tour, lunch and zoo visit.

I might have posted on this; I dont recall.
Did miss guitars after about the 3rd day, but missed our dogs much more.
Ok, missed the (grown) kids too.

12ax7.
The paint was worn off but I believe it was an RCA, but not the coveted short black plate.
It was a short grey plate I got off ebay "tested good". I realize the limitations of tube testers.

IT was in V1 of my 18w TMB build.
I will pull the chassis and check voltages, hope to have time this weekend.
I documented the build well enough for reference.

We should all be so lucky!
