Snakehead Terror - Swarm of the Snakehead

Sounds like a few of us are old enough to remember Chiller Theater, with the six-fingered hand coming up out of the swamp goo... I used to love that.

Now that I think of it, all that late night viewing almost certainly contributed to my love of bad monster movies. That and the early Japanese low-tech-but-sincere monster flicks, of course. The original Rodan was on the other night.

The later Japanese films that devolved into guys kickboxing in monster suits surely paved the way for all the cheeseball features that came after, and continue to do so.

One thing I enjoyed about this year's Godzilla King Of The Monsters was that they brought back a lot of the old-time kaiju like Rodan and Mothra (I missed the tiny singing fairy princesses though). And I noticed also that although the dialog called them Godzilla and Mothra, the computer entries visible onscreen used the original names Gojira and Mossura (as I type, I can hear the twin fairies singing the name). And the plot tied in with Ghidorah's original backstory as Monster Zero.

So I give them credit for that, although I didn't have high expectations going in to the theater. I hadn't realized this would be a direct sequel to the 2014 Godzilla remake, with several of the human characters from that one featuring prominently. It wasn't out-and-out bad, like the SyFy movies. But there was enough cheesiness (in between the thunderous sound and big screen CGI of giant monsters fighting each other and leveling cities) for me to enjoy it.

In 1963 my parents gave me the privilege of going by myself, or with a friend to the Saturday Matinee. They gave me 50 cents for admission, popcorn and a drink. The first movie I saw was Godzilla, scared the crap outta me and thus started my undying love of monster movies, especially the B movies. I have collected most of those movies on VHS and DVD. Invasion From Mars scared the hell out of me and I loved any William Castle movies, 13 Ghosts, The Screaming Skull and most of all, The Tingler with Vincent Price. Castle would go to great lengths to promote his films. I was lucky enough to experience a lot of his antics......There someting to be said about growing up in the 50's and 60's. :giggle::dood:

The wife and I had nothing to do last night, like usual I might add, so we watch Sharknado 5&6. So, we've now officially seen them all. Chiller Theater was cool, I also remember watching Monster Movie Matinee when I was younger. I'm a sci-fi alien/monster buff, always have been.
