So --- I am FAR from being a CORK SNIFFER (I think ) --- my favoritist "high end" USA MADE Gibson is a "lowest end" Les Paul JR.....purchased on blow out sale.....and is my most expensive guitar purchase (LOL cheap bastard Masters Degree)
---recently I am really noticing the difference in a similarly amped 8", 10" and 12" amps .....like a WOW that is REALLY much better in a `12" speaker...............

what is your favorite speaker size 8" 10" 12" 15"--- and why?
 
No single favorite, and...
Gotta have the "right" speaker, but...
For reasonable volumes for solo practicing in a bedroom, a 1x10 easily works for me.
Jamming with a band: Then it has got be at least a 1x12. Monster sound with a 2x12. Never in my personal experience have I ever needed a 4x12.
However, a 4x10 can be the best of all worlds, which adds a bit more punchiness compared to 12's... anyone here played thru a cranked Super Reverb? Or from my personal artillery... my 4x10 Rivera Quiana!

I had to totally relearn everything I thought I knew about speakers when I bought the 12" WGS Reaper 55Hz.

I had always preferred a minimum of two 12's, but this single Reaper 55Hz has a big full sound, almost like a 2x12.

I'm not sure how a 15" would sound with a guitar.

I think my best tone ever was a Marshall JTM45 driving an Ampeg 6x10 cabinet.
 
I like 2-10" over 1-12". I have a cabinet that I bought that will hold a Fender Deluxe Reverb chassis but has a 15" Fender JBL Orange frame in it. That thing sounds sweet.
I need to try the Mesa through it one of these days.
 
it wasnt overly evident to me till I was able to play a Fender Mustang I and a Fender Mustang II side by side
The I has an 8" and the II has a 12" and using the SAME preset "stock" models -- the 12" sounded MUCH fuller and deeper than the 8"
ENough for me to notice and start really paying attention to speaker size/tone

Wait until you hear a 12" Reaper 55Hz at near full volume!
 
I rarely hear anything at full volume----I have extreme sensitivity to loud sounds--- a 12" speaker at full volume would be truthfully PAINFUL.

I been closing it up in the closet to wail on it, but, my Reaper gets officially broken in "live" tonight. Fellow I know called. His guitar player got popped for DUI tonight. He needs me to cover his spot at a private Christmas party tonight. The money is good and its all 80's/90's covers... :)

Morning Gents!

The WGS 55Hz speaker really is amazing. No matter how hard you drive it, no matter how much resonance you roll up, the speaked handles it with clarity.

When I auditioned for Soloman Grundy back in June, I remember having to roll off bass and resonance to get clarity at high volumes - not anymore!

It's kind of strange in a way. When I first installed the 55Hz, i totally changed all my amp settings, which I expected, but what I did not expect was how this speaker could handle the low frequencies and still cut through with so much rich articulation.

Its really one of the easiest and best modifications I have ever performed.
