I was wondering the same thing.
What's a "private luthier" anyway?
I have 4 custom made guitars from some guy I know.
Not sure I'd call him a luthier because I wouldn't want to insult luthiers...

Didn't know this was going to be so hard to figure out for some of you. Let me be more specific. Any Custom made guitar or guitars that's not made by any of the big brand names like.

Fender
Gibson
Jackson
Ibanez
Etc
Etc

And not from kits ,or you have made yourself or modded in any shape or form.

Show your guitars you have had Custom made with your specs from Custom shops, that are not commonly known...

OK, I'll bite...

1st one on the is left bookshelf matched, spalted maple carved top, semi hollow thru-neck designed to my specs, built by Glenn aka SonnyBoy Guitars on the east coast. Sonny did the body/neck woodworking. I did all the finishing of the raw wood, installed the hardware and wired up the electronics which include a pair of SD P-Rails with Triple Shot surrounds. The bridge is a Lashbrook piezo pickup with the vol and tone knobs being the 2 smaller ones. The larger knobs are concentric vol/tone for the neck and bridge P-Rails. There is a pickup selector switch in the regular SG location to select from the neck or bridge. There is another toggle switch where the input jack would normally be that switches from the piezo to the humbuckers. The fretboard is ebony with MOP and abalone inserts. Frets are stainless steel.

Here's one I have that was made by a luthier called Dion Schofield from Nova Scotia.
neck and body were all handmade, the maple top is burled to perfection.
Made around 2004 if I recall. Does'nt get much play time so it's up for a trade.

Me too! The front one is a tease for the next build, I started on it a few days ago.

I guess that Javamagic (Brian) could be refered to as a private Luthier. He has done many builds for hire. So, my only private build is this one, even though it was a gift and not purchased.







I do have a few amps by a small builder, and they are quite nice.
