So, I know a lot of us here have a fascination for pickups and the amazing shapes and forms they come in. I would guess most of the guitars shown here are of the dual pup variety, and some even have three. Naturally, this gives the guitar player a large selection of possible tones, and we are all for variety and choice, right?
However, there is something fascinating (and sometimes even liberating) with being faced with only a limited choice. It tends to force you to be creative and focused. So, I think it would be cool to have a thread where we post our single pickup guitars, a kind of "less is more" thread, if you will. I'm not saying one pup guitars are better than others, there is just something special about them (though not in a short bus kind of way, mind you!). I'm amazed at how versatile single-pup guitars can be.
You have probably seen my two cyclopes before, but I'm happy to repost them.
To the left, my 2016 Epiphone Joe Bonamassa "Treasure" Firebird I. The best Epiphone I have ever played. The pickup sounds divine, not hot like the new Gibson Firebird pickups, but very vintage-like. The pots have been swapped by a previous owner, and the knob pointers removed (I'll put some new ones on there one of these days). I plays and sounds absolutely lovely.
To the right, my 1965 Gibson SG Junior. The bridge is a repro, as are the tuners. The knobs are new, and a previous owner put a brass nut on it. It has the juiciest-sounding P90 I have ever played. It has lots of honest wear (a "player's grade" guitar, isn't that what they say?) and looks cool as hell. In the last picture it also has the Vibrola mounted. One of my most prized possessions, quite simply a lovely guitar.
