Post 150 is a real photo. In the early to mid 80s they spent $4 billion dollars building Space Launch Complex 6 (pronounced slick six) at Vandenberg Air Force base in CA. This was for doing polar orbit launches for spy and reconnaissance satellites. Up until recently they could not do polar launches from FL. They tried one in the 60s and it failed and fell on Cuba and killed a cow (no sh#t).

If you look closely at the shuttle you will see it is the Enterprise, the very first test shuttle, never made for orbit but for drop tests, etc. At VAFB it was used for fit checks and assembly procedure validation.

Then in Jan 1986 we had Challenger. That put the entire program on hold for years and the military came up with plan B and they moth balled SLC-6. SpaceX has since modified it for Falcon launches.

Whenever I'm visiting family, I always take a photo of this statue of Johannes Gutenberg. Sometimes I'll also get the Mainzer Dom (cathedral) in the background. Last year, all the scaffolding came down from the cathedral after years of repairs were completed. Figured I should get a shot before they go up again.

I never get tired of this view. As usual, I didn't want to leave.
