So -- its been -- well truly about a year??? maybe a little less-- since Robert offered up a set of GFS humbuckers to me -- he tried and didnt like I believe (????)

well various things happend -- and it took a while for the pups to actually GET to the swamp--- then MORE stuff happened and it took even MORE time for them to find there way into a Guitar!!

BUT-- as Mel Fisher used to say -- TODAYS THE DAY!!!

SO -- after the requisite Sunday honey dos and yard work before the rains got here (its every afternoon FYI) I broke out the pups---- the EVIL tool of horrible torture (soldering iron) put on some slow jazz and set about doing a "spa day" for the Epi---

precious.jpg

I can report the new pups
GFS Classic II neck and bridge---Alnico -- pups---

and I MUST say -- wow -- HUGE improvement -- way more articulate -- no mud -- better response across all genres -- richer tone---

Happy Camper..

THANKS ROBERT -- or Masked Avenger-- or bug eyed mutant man -- or whichever persona is reading the forum at the moment ;)

Oh, wow! I'm happy they worked out for you! The GFS are generally pretty good stuff.

they really "opened up" the SB --- shes singing like never before now --

Thanks man-- now more reasons to play that 13 lb beast ---- and the sustain???????????? I thought it was good before--- ugh! -- its for days now

Those Classic II's are a slightly hotter wound Alnico II. Heavily wax potted too. As I recall, 8.2kΩ bridge 7.8kΩ neck. IIRC, those I got from Jack @ GFS. Do they have nickel silver baseplates instead of brass????

I believe so yes--
great tone-- but DEAD QUIET when you not playing --- awesome for Jazz too-- roll back the volume and wow-- so nice

My only complaint with them was I felt - personally - I needed more output to drive my amp harder. Other than that, they are really a nice pickup. They are the first pickups I put in my SG after having all the trouble with the Gibson's. They are made by Artec.

You know, even though I gave away tons of pickups and stuff, I think I still have an old cream bobbin humbucker here...i could build you a out-of-phase bridge if you like???

I found it...Very, very old GFS custom from around 2002-2003. IIRC, I had this - at one time - in my 1987 Squirecaster. Nickel base plate, 2 conductor only, cream/cream bobbins, double-slug, non-adjustable pole pieces, bridge pole spacing, 15.88kΩ. I will do the magnet swap this week and shoot it out to you...

Ok, Pulled the baseplate and rotated the magnet 180° from its original position, then re-potted. This was NOT a 'pancake flip,' but rather a rotation in the position of the magnet like the hands of a clock...

Ok, Man...I made sure you didn't have to wait an entire year for this pickup....
