She's no beauty, but her sister is kinda cute...

Grump, the 1st thing about this thread is I had to ask myself WTF is he saying here? Which is the " no beauty, and which is the cute one"
I guess that is why girls come all shapes and sizes and level of appeal. I will go against the flow and say eh, the PRS is not my cup of Tea but that Walnut SG is a 10 in my book.

Enjoy them and the new bass.

Now if one wants to talk TV Yellow, MMMMMM LP Jr's and Double Cut LP JR's

Nice guitars, especially your SG. I am a fan of the faded brown series, and to my eye
your SG is extremely attractive. I played mine for a good long time with the stock p'ups
and found that they sound better if you take the trouble to insert some stiff foam under the
rear edge of each pickup next time you feel like working on her.

To do that, you'll need to remove the strings, bridge and pick guard, so it's a bit of labor to
do this and then set your instrument up again. But it's worth it. Do it on a day when you intend to
change the strings, and then I'll recommend fret doctor for the fingerboard, Gorgomyte for the frets,
Howard's Feed n Wax for the body, some graphite powder mixed with vaseline for the nut slots and bridge
saddles.... Cut a piece of foam about 20mm thick to go under the neck p'up, and maybe 25mm thick to
go under the bridge p'up (depending on how stiff the foam is). The object of the game is to level the
pickups with the strings (not the guitar top). Gibson 490s sound better if you go to this amount of
labor.

I love my faded special, can you tell? Nothin's too good for my baby. Like you, I regard this humble SG
as the best guitar of any kind that I have ever played. I fell arse over teakettle for this instrument in like
2008, and she's still the Queen of my music room. Congratulations on an excellent choice.

Oh and the PRS looks nice too. *grins

Grumpy, do not take it wrong about me not being as attracted to the PRS as some are. I have no intention to mean it as a negative or reason not to enjoy your new guitar, bro. I just Realllllly like these Walnut SG's that much.

I still remember perusing catalogs at SG's and seeing nothing but options of all sorts. Angus types, P90 types, Push Pull Pot types, and all I could decide was I wanted a Brown one for my first one.
Wouldn't you know, I got a Black first one!!!!

^ thank you, Sir.

Yeah, I agree - the SG is sexy. The PRS might go, but we will see; I wanna give her a chance, and between the two I have nice tonal options.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks, Dave. Did I mention that the SG has a lovely rosewood board. :D

Nice guitars, especially your SG.

I thought you'd say that. The SG is surprisingly good; not just good, but really really good. Shockingly good. Next string change, and I'm really liking the 9-46 which Dave clarified she's wearing (makes perfect sense to the fingers and ears - light and easy to bend, but a lovely bassesque thump from the low E and A strings), I'll put some foam under the pickups and also spend more time between now and then getting the height correct; the 490r is gonna have to up its game.

Son Of A Bitch

Blimey, I only came here to get away from you! :p

Yo Boo, what took you so long? Where is Betty? Did you really flip on us and are now playing the right way?

I was working/researching for a fair while, so trying to spend less time playing around on the net, also the missus wanted me to cull the guitars down to one - which I did; I'm now back to 3 (if you exclude the one at the office that she doesn't know about).

Sold. She was a very fun platform to learn on, but was never a great player for me (probably should have kept her though...).

Yes. &, I must say its fun to learn again, but with knowledge of scales and practicing methods, etc. I am even learning how to read sheet music!

You mean walnut? :D

You mean walnut? :D

Nope, at that time I meant BROWN!!!!

Certainly I could have chosen White, Pelham Blue, TV Yellow or the OF COURSE Cherry, but I decided I like SG's in Brown wood color. Since I am not fond of red, I knew it had to be Brown. That is why I laugh at getting my first SG as a real oddball by choosing an '85 3 knob Special in Black. HAHA

After wrapping my aching wrists around my new jaguar bass, the SG plays sooooooo very easily - hardly touching the frets, comfortable unstretched fingers, light guitar... Bass is fun to play, then going back to your favourite guitar thereafter just adds to the experience.

The baseball donut principle.

Chili, there is a chance he may have been pulling our leg, given where many of us came from.

The SG is ugly. The PRS is sexy. But, the ugly SG is also raunchy, demure, sophistislutty and powerful which makes her extra sexy. I'll go with an Aussie 'beauty' as a pictorial analogy. Here's Brodie:

She has that guitar at the perfect level for palm muting. I know, whom cares right?

Very nice,I read your other posts and see you didn't get along with PRS either. I like my SG's & for me it's all about neck feel. Possibly what you may be feeling with the PRS? That was what I didn't like with the 2 PRS's I had. SE Santana & USA Starla. I keep coming back to my Gibson necks. I have been thru a few different brands and have some I won't buy again...not from lack of trying as I went thru a lot of guitars figuring what I liked and didn't. PRS & Carvin & with Carvin if you farted and the room warmed up from it the neck would need adjusting. Both great guitars but owned a couple and they just don't feel right at all to me. MIA Fenders are a yes but MIM 21 fret's are a no, would rather buy the 22 fret Squier. Super glossy necks like the Indo G&L's are a no for me. ESP/LTD Vipers are a big yes! Surprising to myself the Ibanez Wizard necks are a yes. My favorite Fender necks are the MIA Hwy 1 satin necks.
