How come you see a lot of SG's from the 60's and 70's, a lot from the 20XX's, a few from the 90's and almost none from the 80's? Were SG's unpopular in the 80's and 90's?

MIne has a DUncan SH-4 .............I am totally in LOVE with the tones this thing makes.......24 frets....awesome neck ....

It was a transition era. There were some really cool models available. But there were some oddballs too.
As Norlin headed out, the new owners had to “right the ship” in their eyes. There were definitely some gems to be had though...

I eithe need a good return policy or to be able to play it first when we're talking SG's, I got burned once. I even played it first but still ended up with 2nd degree burns...

Keef plays that Single pup yellow Gibson & he picks on the fretboard..it invokes a darker neck like tone for rythym strumming with a single pickup guitar..i do that a lot on bluesy type songs..Oh, you meant the neck pickup

Yeah, I do that a lot on the LP Junior. It gets a somewhat hollow, woody sound.

I got a Standard from 96 , while the old man has 4 different SGs ( 86 Custom, 96 Standard, 96 61 Reissue and 97 60 reissue Les Paul Custom SG). They are all fantastic guitars and were well made. Lots of effort went into the production of them from what i can see. I think that was the era when Gibson began straightening up and refocused on quality after some wild years of designs in the earlier 80s
