Question on relief...

When fretting at the 1st and 14th and then checking the 9th fret on my 2016 Gibson SG, i have about .007" of gap between the fret and bottom of the low E. However, on the high e, the string is almost touching, yet when sighting down the neck, I see no twist.

Thoughts???

Ignore the numbers. Set the bridge so that the upper frets don't buzz, then set the truss rod so the lower frets don't buzz. That's it, the relief is set.

Oh, and yes. Your neck is twisted.

What is almost touching? .004"? .002"?
If my neck has such an infinite difference from one side to the other, I might see it using a magnifying glass or some fancy instrument, but I'll probably never notice it while playing.

If there is no buzz, crank the amp and play the damn thing.

BTW .007 sounds good, they made billions doing movies on it.

Perhaps not...the bridge is lower in the treble side I see...

If you are measuring the gap while fretting 1 and 14, the bridge doesn't come into it. But a bit of twist doesn't really matter.

Hmmmm...Ok, I see your point.

Beyond that, I see who incredibly well made my 2005 Schecter C1 Hellraiser Neck-Through/String-Through Mahogany Guitar is...

Spectre digs the Schecter, you may have something there.

Robert, even with that imperfection, does it play well with that relief?
Y'all been around this much longer than me, but I say if so, then so what?
I dont measure anything any more; I'm in the Biddlin' camp of set it to where it works and rock on.

My reliefs are all a bit high because I play like a Biker dude beatin' a rival Biker dude with a piece of pipe.
