Server AlmaLinux 8 Upgrade

Today we will be upgrading the software that runs this forum. We are going from CentOS to AlmaLinux. This is all in preparation to move this site to a new bigger, faster server. We may experience a short downtime, however we are working to make this a seamless transition.

That’s okay. My laptop crashed yesterday while doing Windows updates. Been trying to get it to go since.

I walked away while the last update was still downloading. Two had already downloaded and installed. Both waiting for a restart. Came back after working on my mower and the laptop had shut off. No biggy. Not the first time that’s happened. Hit the go button and the machine has been stuck on the the initial DELL screen. Won’t move on to load windows.

Been trying to avoid the Armageddon reset computer approach where it nukes everything and reinstalls Windows and I start over. Fortunately my files are backed up three different ways, so mostly nothing is lost. Just would most likely have to reinstall a bunch of apps.

Switch to the new OS is complete. We did have a few seconds of downtime, however we are now online and operational.

That was fast!! Only took me 24 hours to get my laptop functioning again.

Got an unavailable message on a refresh, but checked back a few minutes later and you were back.

The server was giving an unavailable message for a few seconds. Gone as fast as it came in.
