Audition!

band audition.jpg

You have a very important gig, band audition whatever.... you must show up with some super-killer gear.
It's a LOT of ROCK, and a little bit of some other stuff, but this band is making huge bank, and are local heroes.
It's real important, and what's awful is your car got jacked two days ago, with all your top gear in there.

Thankfully, clutch bros @iblive and @SG John have both offered you their main rigs to borrow for the occasion.

I don't know off-hand what each bro sports as main important gear right now, but this would be an ideal
time for them to list it so we can make an informed decision in the vote poll on which rig to load up.

So here pretty much goes nothing.

Since our Neighbors to the North know how to rock, here's my goto amp (read that as only amp). Traynor YGM3. 20watts. OEM speaker has been replaced with a Celestion V30. While it doesn't pack a huge wallop, Mic'd and run though the house, that little sucker sounds pretty good. And I figure if Neil Young's (Canadian) goto amp on stage is a Fender Reverb and we all know he's pretty good at destroying air molecules and ear drums....

For the Pedal Board, these have served me well. Chain goes Boss Tuner - MXR Compression - Bad Monkey (everyone's favorite) - Keeley Fuzz Head - DOD Chorus - DynaTech Mosaic (12 string sim) - MXR Delay.

For Guitars. To try and cover genres let me suggest an acoustic. 1974 Ovation Acoustic Electric.

For a rock it out machine..... Here's my G400. Everything modded except the wood and the plastic. Great sounding and playing guitar.

For the Jazz box, Hagstrom Viking Deluxe. Except for strings, as original as the day it shipped from the factory.

Finally for that jangle on the off chance you’d be doing some surf tunes. MIM Strat. Modded with Graphtech String Saver Saddles, Graphtech Roller String Tees, After market Pups and pots.

And then if the band or audition calls for a bass player, I have a bone stock Ibanez Bass and my Son's 400 watt bass amp and cabinet with Four 10" speakers. I've cranked that thing up a couple times. Knocked pictures off the wall down stairs and cracked a couple windows. I've been told never do that again.

Of course I am traveling for work and don’t have access to my my home computer or photo archives. Here are a few photos of nice gig and studio proven guitars and amps, and a few extras.

Very comfortable to play Eric Johnson Strat and ES-335 along with a Trainwreck Express and well played ‘70s Marshall 4x12.

The same previously mentioned guitars along with a nice Gretsch copy made by my own two hands. Some fantastic’72 Marshall Super Bass 4x12s and a Matamp Series 3000 (30 Watt) head and Anniversary cabinet.

If it worked for Pete Townsend, a 2019 SG Special along with a Hiwatt DR103 and a Lead100R head sitting on a Fane loaded ‘71 Hiwatt cab. And, a nice DST Engineering DST-15 which is a hot-rodded version of a Vox AC-15.

Who doesn’t love the sound of a Les Paul into a 50 watt Marshall stack?

If you don’t want the big stuff, there’s a ‘71 Deluxe Reverb and a DST U84 that is switchable between 2 and 8 watts in this photo. Both very dynamic amplifiers. Then there is the homemade JTM45 and Marsh 8x10 if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary. Because they are great guitars to play, the ‘85 Les Paul Standard and Eric Johnson “Virginia” Strat are always in photos due to their heavy rotation.

SG through the Traynor?
Nice!!
Realistically a decent working amp and guitar? Done.

Of course i am a huge Orange amp fan, but also a big fan of Traynor amps, and because of that i am going with iblive . He is the only one here, who has posted more about the Traynor amp than anyone else. And therefore deserves my vote. If i was looking for a tube amp, this would be the one, they are NNICE! 15 watt valve.

Didn't want to have to do this, but I have to bring out the big guns. Since I can't compete with Brother @SG John and his harem of awesome gear...... Guess I'll have to present my bare bones last ditch effort to buy votes....

When we were dating my eventual bride's parents gave an electric guitar and amp for Christmas. They had no idea what to were buying. Pretty sure they bought on price and price alone. Because frankly, the guitar was a piece of junk. We no longer have it. Not sure who does. @Ramo wouldn't even has wasted his time tossing this thing into the fire place. :rolf:

However, here's the amp they purchased. Early 70s Fender Vibro Champ. Whatever they paid, at the end of the day with this amp alone they got a bargain. Fast forward a couple years, we got married and the amp came with her.

And then here's the Saga Tele kit guitar to go with it. Bought this after it had been assembled by another guy. It was butt ugly. Had painted it some ugly shade of orange..... with a paint brush. I sanded it to bare wood. Stained and cleared it. Installed the 4-Way switch mod. Modified it to thru body strings. Got the strap at Chicago Music Exchange.

I went with brother @iblive mostly because his rig seems perfectly serviceable and I'd be honestly afraid to take any of SGs rare and desirable items knowing I've ready been targeted by thieves. I'd have an easier job squaring up with Rick if :poo: went south.

Yeah that would be a great little amp. I have the bigger brother YCV4050 and it is a hidden gem, really. Sounds fantastic. Creamback 65 loaded stock. Lots of punch and an extra footswitchable gain boost.
