Seeking Advice - '93 Les Paul Standard

If you really like the SG, you should keep it. The early style with vibrola is not put out in the numbers that Les Paul Standards are. Since you already have a nice Les Paul, you should keep what you have. Unless you play the other Les Paul, and it knocks your socks off, of course.
Thank you John!
When I close my eyes and picture the ultimate SG, I see a cherry one with the small PG and the Maestro. Lo and behold, I already have it!
I think you have said what I knew all along. I should keep what I have. Sometimes it just takes someone else to tell us something that we already know.

Are you in a position to play the Les Paul? That's really the only way to know for sure whether it's great, good, just okay, or lifeless.

Your SG is mighty nice. (Vibrolas are actually usable, unlike the weird '61 type trem).
Gotta love a cherryburst plaintop though, and this could turn out to be a good one.

Still, if you can't try out the LP in person and you do love the way the SG plays, I probably wouldn't swap, myself.

Here in Ontario, Canada, we are under a Stay at Home order due to the increasing numbers of the second COVID wave. We are only supposed to travel for essential reasons such as work, groceries, medical issues, etc. The LP is about a 45 minute drive from my home. I probably could go check it out but it is not advisable at present. If it was an absolute “yes” to the trade I would go but not for a “maybe”.

I have never not regretted selling a guitar.

Kinda like my kids, even the substandard ones.

Having said that, there is a late ‘80’s or early ‘90’s goldtop out there that I still regret not buying. I just couldn’t afford it at the time.
The kids were substandard, or the guitars were? :ROFLMAO:

Just kidding. There are several guitars I have sold or traded that I wish I had back. One was a 1990 Gibson LP Standard. That is the main reason I was even considering this trade.

Maybe do a distance handling?

Guitars on car trunks and check them out?
A good idea, however, with the current "lock down" here in Ontario, I could potentially be fined ($880) for a "non-essential" trip if I were to be pulled over. This will be in effect until at least Feb 11.
Ultimately it is not worth the chance right now, especially if it is only a "maybe" trade at this point.

First of all, a '93 LP is not in any way a "vintage" LP.

The '90s era gibsons were IMO, not the best that Gibson ever offered. I had a '90 LP Standard, a '93 LP Standard, and a '92 LP Classic Plus, and all had some substantial QC issues. I would not buy or trade for one without giving it a thorough inspection first.
I love my 98 studio & 93 Nighthawk. interesting how the guitars all come out so dif..just like cars..good & bad . I am kinda blind to anything when picking out a guitar but how that first hand wrap around the neck & then the first strum..the keepers all got that loud note separatin ring out before even plugging in

I played the SG last night. I have had a love/hate relationship with them. I think I need an SG but then I get one and don't bond well with it.

This one is different, though! It sounds killer (Burstbucker '61s) and it plays great. I really think that I have to keep this one!
Very true with SGs: not everyone are exactly the same sounding even in the same year and model ( dad has a 96 Black Standard, I have a 96 Heritage Cherry Standard. They sound nothing like really, as his sounds better honestly lol). Mine is fine and its been faithful, his SGs though are insanely awesome.

Still arguably my favorite guitar design ever

Of all mine, this is still my favorite. Over thirty years of gigs, beer, and sweat. Even with the narrow nut, it's still a great guitar to play.
