Scratch building a version of a Ceriatone Plexi 51 All Access

My personal tastes run towards the ceramic discs, over the mica types, just what I prefer, no right or wrong there. l like the slight tad of grit from a ceramic disc, and find the mica approaches a more sterile tone than I'm after. The larger voltage rating on the ceramic generally helps stabilize the disc more, and in my humble opinion I feel it also helps with any microphonics produced from the disc.

I like how you positioned those screen resistors out of the way for the rest of the wiring that's coming up.

Depending on what I'm after from an amp, I often prefer ceramics for the same reason, especially the silver ceramic dogbone types (as you have for the PI anti-fizz cap). A bit hard to find them in the values needed for treble, treble peaking & bright caps now, but I have a small stash of them. They do contribute a certain grainy, gritty texture to the upper mids & highs that I like.
If I'm after clear, open upper mids/highs I prefer polystyrenes to silver micas.

I regard you as a very experienced amp builder. Do you at least make enough to cover the cost of all the materials when you sell your creations?

I made a small amount when I had the business open, but put everything back into just to close the shop a few years later, so I guess the answer is nope. So far.

From personal experience with high quality amp kits from vendors like Allen Amps, C3 Amps, V2 Amps, & Metro Amps (Which stopped offering kits more than ten years ago!), I would be very lucky to get 50% of my cost if I were to sell my own builds. I understand that I'm basically a "wannabe" in the world of amp builders, and I lack some serious education on the physics of electronic engineering, but it sure would be fun to regularly build these kits, then sell them without going broke!

I really enjoy watching inspiring build threads like yours. Nice job...

This mornings progress, mini switches, input jacks, and made a final material order. I'm out of short bat DPDT mini switches, damn it.

The last couple of days work. The 4PDT switch is a bear to get to look good, and the stacked pot was challenging.

And todays progress. Need to solder a couple of 10K dropping resistors and the plate wire for V2-6. The rest will be added after the board is in the chassis.

The parts arrived and I made a lot of control area progress. Granted I still have some final adjustments to the wire routing, bends, etc., but the front panel is shaping up.
