Even so, you’re removing a pretty minimal amount of wood to accommodate the extra width.

This is basically how much wood would have to be removed. I am strongly inclined to get him to do it as I want the maximum choice in neck pickups.
The floyd spring rout is the same depth from front to back so the recesses to accommodate the long pickup legs would be fine at the front
That really is a small amount to be removed.
@Hackmaster has cut out more than that to add a third pickup in his guitars!

Yeah I'm going to ask him to do it.
Will be a lot cheaper while he is installing the Gotoh bridge, which probably will require a bit of routing at the back or front of the bridge recess
That way I will have a big choice of pickups. No need for a 'bathtub' rout

I picked up a hardcase in another trade (this time for a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD I had laying around). Canadian made, 1980s I think. Could do with some new foam to make it tighter around the guitar neck

These arrived today. Gotoh GE-1996T bridge and FGR-2 nut. Probably a week from tomorrow I will take my Schecter out to Steve 'Ghostrider' Opitz in Holden Hill to have the bridge and trem fitted and the guitar routed to fit a neck humbucker

Yes, I got the same as the standard block, 33mm. It feels a lot heavier than the Schecter block, however, as this one is brass and the Schecter one is some pot metal thing.

One last mockup. This one has the Gotoh bridge superimposed over the Schecter bridge. I think it is a little squarer and the adjustment screws are slightly longer. The tech will rout the guitar so that everything works
Same here. I never buy a guitar to make money with it. Just like modding cars, you never get your money back when you upgrade the parts.All my guitars are great! I start with a stock guitar and keep modding it until it's perfect for me. Also means I can't really sell them without losing a heap of money...

Looking at the same catalogue and some other photos online it seems that the 'high end' Schecter Stiletto Classic (neck-through, hard case model) had the exact same Gotoh bridge that I am installing in my Stiletto-6 FR. So the catalogue and the photos from a current eBay listing provide a handy reference regarding routing the top to fit the trem. This model was also available in 2009.

Looking at the catalogue photos side by side the rout for the tremolo on the Classic seems to be slightly narrower at the top, somewhat squarer, and extends slightly lower for the longer adjustment screws. I will have to compare the bridges with a ruler. I'm sure that my luthier can make a neat rout, but it might be slightly wider than needed
EDIT: Yes it is slightly narrower (by 5mm) and slightly deeper at the sides (2.5mm). Lengthwise it looks the same but it might be prudent to take a bit off there

I've just stripped down the guitar and test fitted the new trem. The two areas where I think it will be necessary to rout are behind the corners of the trem on the top (i.e., around the tremolo arm area and on the other side) and the cavity for the block and arm. The part for the block is fine but given the deeper bushing on the Gotoh it will be necessary to rout the cavity below the arm to the same size as the cavity for the block just to retain full travel. The knife edges and studs were pretty stuffed. One stud was loose. Here are some photos.
