Scary Day:

Spent the weekend working on mom and Dad's ranch. Really got a lot done, but had to burn candle ay both ends to do it. Recorded late last night too. Had a strange event happen today. I felt great, just another day like any other and then about 11:45am, I suddenly felt all of my strength leave my body as if my 'virtual' battery ran dead. I became instantly weak and disoriented. Took both hands to open my door and could barely push my clutch. I couldn't remember the way home. I managed to drive myself to the hospital, but collapsed in the lobby. Severe exhaustion and electrolytic imbalances, but adequately hydrated I was told. Couldn't remember my wife's phone number. My hands wouldn't stop shaking. Its was humbling. I'm home now. Going to rest up.

I don't want get graphic, so I won't. I once had a "stomach bug" and got so dehydrated, I could hardly walk. I was walking down the stairs and everything went black. I fell straight down and called for my wife to bring me a water bottle. I drank 2 straight down and regained my vision and strength. It scared the heck out of me. I now carry water everywhere.

Electrolytes are touchy and often neglected/forgotten. It's natural to crave salt when you work hard or when it's hot out. But you need to balance it out with potassium.
I drink organic grape juice all Summer long. Bananas are good too - as long as you aren't somewhere with a lot of mosquitos.

We work out doors all the time --in FLORI-DUH--

HYDRATE -- #1 I hear the forman asking the guys ALL THE TIME--- you drink enough? -- YOu need a drink? DRINK MORE--
Take 5 and drink some etc etc.

that hydration thing can sneak up on you ---

ANd on the highway -- with cars FLYING by at 80 --- you miss step--- your Dead --- its not a game --- HYDRATE -- and as DOn said keep SNACKS around --

Dollar tree sells mixed nuts/fruit (granola basically) buck a bag I keep one in my car with me all the time-- and water gatorade etc.

Robert,

Unless you experienced something unique like heat stroke or heat exhaustion while getting work done at the ranch, something tells me you've been burning the candle at both ends more than just this past weekend.

You can either choose to slow down and pay attention to your body, or your body will choose to slow you down and force you to pay attention. This is your second go-around with this sort of thing.

You've seen what happens when you leave the choice up to your body.

You've got too many people who care about you - here on this forum and, more importantly, under your own roof.

We love ya, man. Eat right, stay hydrated, and GET PLENTY OF SLEEP!!!

Stay healthy....

But...if you do end up suffering an unfortunate "death by music" - can I have your amp?! :p

@Robert Herndon Glad you are ok.
Your initial post said you were adequately hydrated.
Had you eaten? Got enough sleep?
Too much simple sugar?
How about this one - too much caffeine trying to compensate for not enough sleep?

I believe this is not the first time you have posted about running yourself ragged.

Sudden drops in blood sugar can cause those types of symptoms.
The trail mix and water / Gatorade Adrian suggested is a good one.

Take good care of your self, my friend, good thing you didn't pass out while driving.
I would hate to see a thread about you in the Fallen Stars room, especially if it could have been avoided.

Much more importantly, I'm sure your family would miss you greatly; you are no good to them dead.

Yesterday was such a blur. I barely remember what they told me other than physical exhaustion and lack of sleep.

hey..made me think....my wife makes me cheap pedialite...kool aid with salt..our doctor told us when our kids were little it was same thing...go 16-18 a day cause on 24/7 business

this summer i seized up..it was a simple matter of the Gatorade/pedialite replenish..now she makes a bottle ready for me to grab everyday...soon a s i feel the lightness or inability to process..down that stuff goes & its like a new me

be careful...if it persists..go see the doc....
