Saws Are Sharp

Ouch! Judging from the width of the cut it could've probably been worse?

Once at a job I was guiding a M52 or so bolt, about the size of a baseball bat, while the part that was supposed to be fastened was hanging off a crane. The bolt got pinched, I thought I'd have time to fix my grip, turns out I was wrong and the bolt fell on my right index finger... So I went to the toilet to have a look at it, after taking the glove off I could see bone, among other things. Went to tell the boss that I think I should go see a doctor, wrapped half a roll of electrical tape on it and drove myself to ER... It turned out alright, the shape is a bit weird and there's not much feel in that fingertip, but was left with no loss of functionality. Actually now that I think about it, it's kind of nice to have one finger that's a bit number than the rest.

Yes, it easily could have been much worse!

After the cut, I just cleaned it out under the faucet, wrapped a paper towel around it, and kept working. This evening I was able to do a more thorough cleanup and put a proper dressing on it.

Funny thing, I was almost done with the saw when this happened. I had been using it for hours to cut new base shoe for the molding in the house.

Yes. I cut the nail. Oddly, it didn't really bleed all that much and didn't hurt too badly either. I had recently replaced my saw blade with a very sharp carbide-tipped blade. Maybe the quick, clean cut kept too much flesh from being torn and, thus, avoided some pain?
Dammit man, thats rough. Hope it heals quick and easy, holds your nail in tact too. I cut my thumb and nail with a bandsaw few years back but it kept together and healed decently. Unfortunately, exactly 5 days later i split my left palm and right wrist on a piece of ductwork under my house and ended up getting some stitches lol

Good luck and be careful with that wound Smitty. You can definitely loose some sensation with deep cuts as previously mentioned. Sometimes the nerves heal themselves over time, sometimes not. I have dead spots on both thighs after my hip surgeries. I had my right done 6.5 years ago and it is still just as numb as the left which was done a few weeks ago. My fingertips are totally numb due to obvious reasons. I could probably play until they bled before I felt anything.

Damm Smitty that looks as if you dodged it big time brother, I work with saws all the time, the one I am most careful around are table saws, much respect for them all, but more so with them damm table saws.
