Sad news on Christmas Eve

NOt so much my loss, but the whole communities.
John was very intelligent--ex Military-- (Marine) --Well liked and successful Attorney-- local volunteer for many charities and was in the 2 years Ive known him just a great guy --welcoming and friendly---- great Kiwanis President and very fun to hang out with and have a beer. --Ex Marine-- sharp wit and could weave a 2 minute story into a 20 minute tale of epic proportion
One of those guys that says "I said that to say this"..........................and another 20 minutes is gone--but the funny part was-- you didnt MIND, it was always entertaining.

The local news will be airing a message from our Mayor who was also a close friend of Johns, and is also involved in our Kiwanis club.

There are so many variables at work here. I've flown in fog and inclement weather, despite not having a full fledged (certified) instrument rating, and I've seen my share of dense fog in California's Central Valley. Fog really changes the game on you and quite rapidly.

Nothing changes the fact that good people perish, and yet something inside me wants to know more about what happened...power loss??? Sure looks like a flat area at the crash site....

Wow....sad....

HE was an accomplished pilot with all the foul weather certifications....as I recall he was a Pilot in the service--- Fog was probably NOT something of a concern....Im thinking some sort of mechanical issue.

Overloaded aircraft usually crash at the end of the runway - off into the bushes. This craft dropped right on the airfield. I saw a crash like this in Visalia years ago. Pilot had a heart attack on take off.

Damn shame....and so close to Christmas too. Goodness gracious.

Living in NE Illinois with 4 million of my fellow Illinoisian, tragedies like this happen all to frequently. All senseless. All sad. My prayers are with your community.

I didn't know the people personally involved in the tragedy, but I did some reading on them when I found out about what happened, and I think our local area has lost some good ones. The old man really sounds like someone this area still needs to have around. Truly sad in more ways than one. It sucks...
