Runaway Detroit Diesel

Oh my , air cooled!
This is a EMD 2 stroke power assembly (pack)
The blade side attached to the lifter. It installs nearly horizontal to get the rod and the liner in the block. The windows are the intake ports. It only has 4 exhaust valves per cylinder.

Same as Detroit.

Intake ports and 4 exhaust valves per cylinder

They are the same. Rack fuel ,
Helix ramp injector . They retrofitted with new electronic control. Identical to DDEC they call it EMDEC. 24v power suppy.

"Electro-Motive Diesel traces its roots to the Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation, a designer and marketer of gasoline-electric self-propelled rail cars founded in 1922 and later renamed Electro-Motive Company (EMC). In 1930, General Motors purchased Electro-Motive Company and the Winton Engine Co., and in 1941 it expanded EMC's realm to locomotive engine manufacturing as Electro-Motive Division (EMD)."

My favorite EMD locomotive’s where the
SD40 T -2 and the SD45 T -2 from the SP
I built quite a few HO scale models.. but that’s the extent of my knowledge on them ..

Thanks
I have worked on plenty SD40-2 , GP40 and GP38's but they are Mostly used as yard switchers. Not enough power for frieght hauling now.
They have changed them now with remote control , electronic over air.
