Royal - Fresh Man Tube Amp

Ya, the bigger amps do require a bit more beefy thermistors. I had one blow - no damage to anything but the thermistor.

Let me know how the new thermistor works/sounds in your old JCM-50. One of these days I've got to get me an old butt Marshall of some sort. And, and old butt Vox too - lol...

I appreciate the offer to send me one, but I generally have parts like that around in stock and if not it's time to order few more type thing. I like them for older trannies, well, the ones that aren't happy with the bit higher voltages we have now days - and/or keep the circuit to more original voltages. In general I don't really use them for inrush current limiters.

Now that I'm adding an extra node to the Royal I may end up removing one of the two CL80's I am using to get a bit more juice to flow and then tame the heater/filament voltage down. See what happens, haven't given it too much thought. Been too bummed over killing the 7189 tube - lol. How did I kill it you ask? When I put the tubes back in and slipped the tube retainer clip back on it snapped the tip right off - first time I've had that happen - made a nice little hole in top - sucks - lol...

Poor little 7189... :cry: R.I.P. Died tipless… :cry::cry:

Yes, thanks. I'll probably update that in my JCM thread then!

...

It's nice to know someone understands my pain...

Got the tolex on the replaced runner. Not perfect, but not too shaby either.

Went with just the one Cl-80, brought the voltage up just enough to provide pretty much the same juice to the 12ax7 plates so the cathode voltages/etc reamained the same for those. But, there's just a bit more juice going into the now el84 and it's running about 103% , may or may not stinker around with that. I stuck a 470 ohm screen resistor on el84 and it runs about 10 volts lower than the plate. The filaments/heaters are running at about 6.61 volts - pretty much 5% I guess. Anywho - Short of possibly dropping the bias and/or filaments it's pretty much done I guess. I've got some old but bogen tubes and what not around - I'll find something older to cram into the 12ax7 tube sockets...

So, off to another adventure. Not sure if I want to gut a Peavey Triumph Ultra 60 I have and build a combo in that or mess with a Hammond AO44/AO29 - I'm thinking about making a guitar amp / power reverb pair/set with them. Surf's Up Man'g... lol...

So, I ended up changing a bit more on the Royal after I got over killing the 7189 tube - lol. Anyways...

The power tranny is happy with this setup, the filaments/heaters are at 5%, the EL84 that's replacing 7189 is biased 100% and I added a 1K screen resistor also, the 6x4 has it's very own 10uf input capacitor - so it's all excited and happy, etc.

I did change two values. The 0.1 cap is now 0.047 and the 800 ohm bias resistor is now 1.1K.

Sounds nice, very quiet, still sounds real similar to the original set up - I doubt most would notice the difference if I didn't say anything type thing.

The reverb and tremolo works great.

So, clean the cab up a bit and it's a usable amp again.

Here's a schematic of the changes.

dont.................................do it.

Ive yet to rub my junk on it ------------ I might trade you something for it -----I dont have ANY use for it.............
But its a Peavey---- TRIUMPH

I need to replace a tube socket and if I do that I'm going to do a complete over haul while I'm at it (all tube sockets, complete cap job, etc). But, the chances I'll even break even after all the work/money/time is pretty slim here locally - so... Gutting it and making a nice 6L6 push pull non-hi-gain combo amp with reverb and tremolo sounds good to me - maybe anyways. See what happens.

I've got a Peavey Trium;h Ultra 120 that is a monster with zero issues that I really like - freak'n power house hi-gain three channel monster it is - lol...
To me it's like having a Fender, Marshall, and Soldano amp all in one ;)

yes....but ----- I must try the Triumph 60..........It might be all I ever wanted.......and more........(isnt that how this illness works?)

So, evidently what ever caused the damage also caused this...

It seems to be solid on one end and not the other (verified via smacking it with a hammer - lol), so I'll probably just run some glue into it and clamp it. It won't be a perfect match, but after that could probably just cut in a strip of old tolex from the cut up cab I have. You know, I don't know what the deal is with me and bringing old amps back to life, but... ;)

There is no trying it at the moment - I've ripped the bad tube socket out of it already to measure, etc in case I decide to give it an over haul rather than gut it. Which reminds me, I've gotta find that socket - lol...

The crack glued up nicely and I put on an old piece tolex to cover it - not a perfect match, but... Short of redoing the tolex in orange/limegreen it'll have to do for now.

So, I guess I can now put it back together and enjoy playing it some...

this made me tear up a little.......................
not as much as @syscokid post with Farmer Fran pleasuring himself--- but ALMOST as much

The first thing you need to do is put a grounded (3 wire) power plug on the mains input.
Before modifying anything.
This amp can shock you. Remember what I said.
