Rosewood vs Maple

I prefer rosewood but have only played rosewood, maple and faux rosewood something on the cheapy Yamaha.

My fingers kind of drag on the poly on the maple sometimes, when I am near or start sweating.
I have been focused - practicing landing my fingers at / on the frets lately so that will probably solve itself.

Rosewood or ebony preferred. I don't like the look of maple and I don't like the feel of it when it's covered in some sort of finish, a-la Fender. The unfinished Gibson baked maple 'boards feel nice but don't look as good as Rosewood.

I'm starting the quest for my next guitar. I have some criteria, and some of those choices lead me to maple. All but one of my guitars are rosewood, so I was curious what everyone thinks about those two styles.

I like rosewood better, but my next guitar will be sweet regardless of which I go with. I do agree thick lacquer is a no go for me. I want a nice smooth feel.

You might find that a maple neck with no clear finish will get dirty and your skin, sweat and oil may become embedded into the wood. Now if you put a clear on a maple board, eventually those bent notes will remove the finish. Although I love the look of a maple finger boards, I would vote for a darker wood like rosewood or ebony to conceal those dirty paw prints you leave behind while fingering your board.
