Does anyone here have one of these? Automatically turns the keys to proper tune, looks impressive if it works.

I do not like that it sometimes ends by tuning down on occasion. I was taught to tune up to the note. I am not sure this really makes a difference, but it is ingrained in me.

Me too, always tune up. The string is under tension.

The string is always under tension. The reason you tune up is because nut friction will ensure that the tension is slightly greater on the tuner side of the nut than the fingerboard side. It remains that way after a bend.
If you tune down, the greater tension is on the fingerboard side. Then you bend, and suddenly it is again on the tuner side. Result - the string is now flat.
If you don't want any of this, get a locking nut.

I was taught a tune up was plugs, points and a condenser. Yes tuning up to a note has been the rule. I always have trouble with the D strings on any guitar. I know it's a just me problem but it I can get the lights to stop blinking I'll take it up or down.

I'm happy just sticking with my Korg and Snark.

I'm more of a manual tuner and don't trust a machine to tune me strings. If your Korg & Snark ever break down you can always download a free app on your smart phone called "DaTuner". I've used it for a few years myself is is very accurate and you can set it to any pitch like concert pitch (432Hz) or standard pitch (440Hz) or any other pitch...I highly recommend it Blues Session 5.
