I have this one in the works...I am going to TRY and play drums to this on an electronic kit with a Steven Slate Drum Plug-In...Will keep you posted!!!!

Wow! Drums are NO JOKE! I have a new respect for drummers....

This song, when it's completed, will be my very FIRST song created totally by me in my home studio - drums, bass, guitars and vocals - and it's taking much longer than expected!!!!

Mix doesn't sound too bad...needs a little more work. Time to sleep for a while. We been at it since 9am Saturday working on multiple projects - this song is just for fun because it's a very obscure Rory Gallagher tune....

I'm not happy with my main solo. Its dull and lifeless...repetitive. We were about 14 hours into session work (for others) when I cut the solo parts and I can hear it. I have plans to re-do the main solo at a later date.

Here's the original for those who may not be familiar with Rory:

As I listen to this...I am reminded what Buck Owens told me about my playing back in 1978. It's rough, like using a hammer, or sending a message via telegraph...it just lacks finesse, but I guess we cannot choose our styles. I can sit and listen to a phrase in a song and duplicate it perfectly - tone and all - if i spend enough time on it, but when I play in my own style, it's like this thing comes out...I suppose I should blame it on Mom giving me records from Blind Lemon Jefferson, Muddy Waters and Jimmie Rodgers, but then again, they are all world's better than me.

Not long ago, we were chilling between work session and somebody asked me who I thought I sounded like. I told them, "To be totally candid and honest....I haven't heard anyone quite that bad to quantify and comparison..."

What keeps me steadily employed is my ability to listen to something and cop it, but I don't think composing is a natural strength, but it's one I definitely want to work on developing....

Road to Hell -- From the Defender album

"Rhythm guitar was the Gretsch Corvette. We wanted to build it up without turning it into an orchestra thing, so I added a dulcimer instead of acoustic. Lead guitar was a white metal body Tokai Talbo -a very under-rated guitar. That went through an octivider - there's that inconsistent harmonic in them. And if you play harmonics with your nail as well, you can get all three going.
"Most of my solos are improvised, but you find that if you do it once or twice in the studio, you end up using your own ideas from the first couple of takes. Obviously sometimes you have to sit down and work out what would fit. But often it's the old problem: the more you add the worse it gets." -- Rory Gallagher

finally got some time to listen to some members tracks.
Sounds great.
I really appreciate you and others here as accomplished musicians sharing your thoughts and clips with beginner types like myself.
I hear music differently now, even at the level I am at as a player; I hear more detail than ever before.
I really enjoyed this track, thanks Robert.

This reminded me I had some Rory content I need to burn to CD for the study / commute deck
Disc just finished burning!!
MOst of BBC Sessions, it wont fit on 1 disc.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! Here's the version without any vocals. It really allows you to better hear how the guitars are mixed in and out and how panning things left/right and in varying percentages affects the finished product:

The new version definitely rocked! I'm a long time Rory fan, and love to see others keeping his legacy alive.

The Last link didn't work for me.

If you didn't see it on the slide guitar page, here's a cover of "Too Much Alcohol" that I did about 15 years ago.

Finally got my phones on and am listening thru several of the Member Performances. Road To Hell sounded awesome.
