So-- lets here it---

I been in the FIREBIRD gas market a bit --- @Gahr I blame you ----

and I am curious (I owned a Firebird Epiphone that was LOVELY but a bit "hunky" to play)

I know----I shoulda never let her go---but-- TBTH I HATED The VIBROLA and the middle pup wasnt my "bag" it was truly a gorgeous hunk of lumber though one of the best flame jobs EVER


NOW however I am lurking around and I remeber these here REVERSE firebirds.........so whats the deal ??? WHY? which is better?
What is the diff (aside from neck through birds) the Studio Firebirds and NON reverse firebirds are similar in costruction--- just SHAPE? then ?
 
It may be another one of those things they did to get the high "e" closer to the tuner so you don't need string trees???
 
Tough question to answer because they really are two very different guitars, and there are definitely pros and cons for both IMO (one thing that both have in common is being a bit unwieldy, but the reverse body ones come in a much larger case than the non-reverse).

As (I think) you know, I have both - two "reverse" body 'birds and one "non-reverse" and I can say that they are two different beasts entirely. The "reverse" body guitars have the neck-through, so they feel/play/sound like nothing else. Really, they remain one of the most unique and singular electric guitar designs and it's very hard to compare the sound or feel of them to anything else, and if it's something you dig there is no substitute. But they don't really sound like what your ears have learned a Gibson sounds like. It's more like a hot-rodded Tele sound to me, just without the hum, but the Gibson scale puts the harmonics in different places vs. a Fender so it's really unique.

"Non-reverse" 'birds (weird they are called that since they came out second) are set-necks and they play and sound very much like the Gibson that they are. The pickups do bring some extra bite but nothing like what the reverse-bodies have. They are much warmer-sounding guitars and mine sounds more like an SG than it does my neck-through Firebirds. It's more of a brawler too - wound up the thing just wants to rock out and sounds gigantic through a loud amp. Much "bigger" sounding than the neck-throughs but not quite as much cut through a mix.

To be honest, I am going to sell my "non-reverse" one, because its a bit redundant for me. I have two other Firebirds that do that unique Firebird-only thing, and this one sounds so much like the SGs that it is just not different enough to justify keeping it, although it's absolutely bada$$ as hell and I would love to keep it.

Well, whatever it is, it just works.

Great detail of the sunburst, not something that is always easy to photo.

Doesn't hurt that the subject is gorgeous.:notworthy:
