Remixing My Cut Of Watchtower - Again:

It could also have been the naming style...it did not appear to be labeled as a cover.
If it is not labeled as a cover then essentially it looks like you are claiming authorship.
Much like copy/pasting an article/blog/story without crediting the actual writer. That’s kinda copyright infringement.

Correct, but they specifically tagged the content. By the way, this is licensed by Harry Fox for reproduction and sale less than 5,000 copies...

Yep. Title gets flagged, reviewed, then pulled. If it’s not clearly labeled as a cover, or use under license etc...when you post material on a site such as SoundCloud or YouTube, you are claiming copyright to it as an original work...unless you properly disclaim it as your performance of another’s work, or under fair use-for education etc-. It’s all in the EULA.

“Cover” in the title seems to work for SoundCloud. YouTube is all over the place with their judgements.

Looks to me like I wouldn't want to use a backing track and play along with it and put it on SoundCloud.
Nope. Not at all.
But people do, and call it a cover etc... some get pulled, some don’t.
I do post covers occasionally, but I do not post anyone else’s performance material(other than consenting collaborating musicians that may contribute to a recording I post), and I label them as covers clearly.

This looks like there should be some discussion on this, I wont be posting anything on there from now on.

Just label any songs that you didn’t write yourself as a “cover”, and don’t use other peoples copyrighted recordings to back you up.

Can you delete anything you have put on SoundCloud?

Yes you can.

Regarding their policy on possible copyright infringement...
You get two messages like Robert got, and if you do not successfully dispute them, then you get deleted.

You can read about it in their legal section.

Like this CCR bass cover...this person plays to a background track too...but it’s credited in the title, and the description has an “I don’t own this song” disclaimer. According to the rules it could be pulled if someone complained. Some artists defend their copyrights more aggressively than others(Ozzy, The Hendrix Estate, The Three Stooges, etc)...it’s their work/art/original creation, and their prerogative.

So, as I listened to the playback, I realized how intricate all the bending and phrasings really are on this song and i thought it would be really cool to double every solo part. Not electronically duplicating the track, but actually playing a double part to every section.... :-)

What a different vibe...and not just the Gibson's voicing...but stylistically too.

On the first version, I listened to Hendrix repeatedly and intentionally tried to nail his tone and phrasing, even borrowing equipment as needed. On this version, I took a totally different approach.

Aside from doubling most of the guitar parts, I also added some of my own licks and phrases, while not totally deviating from Hendrix's arrangements.

I had already returned the borrowed wah pedal, so I had to use the wah effect in audacity and it really leaves a lot to be desired!!!

Should have a finished version up for you to check out later this evening...

Doubling the solo parts on this song - with Hendrix's use of unison bends - was a real challenge. Getting the slide part to sound decent is also a big a challenge. I think it turned out to be a very, very different version...and it was produced with a minimal amount of re-takes.

Here it is:

Covering The Uncoverable

I overbent a part on the intro solo, but just left it in because it was in pitch with the rest of the song, but sharp ears will notice... :-)

HaHahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! You just can't bring Yourself to do it?....I mean "credit the artist(or song) you're paying tribute to"...nowhere do you mention the title, or author, or artist who's arrangement you're covering...overkill on everything else of course....You are, indeed, an interesting entity.
How about something like this?

"80 Proof Redemption- All Along the Watchtower-(Jimi Hendrix cover)(insert date or whatever)"
Description:
our cover of the Hendrix cover of the tune by Bob Dylan.
***we don't own this song***
But we sure as heck played all this.
Recorded blahblahblah etc. etc.

Then nobody would send you nasty emails from SoundCloud or whatever.

Very nice version though. It's got some Buck Dharma vibe going on with the double tracked leads. I like it...kinda like the outro to Veteran of the Psychic Wars.
I mean that...Really nice job.

Thanks, Man...Good ideas on labeling. I am not sure how much to add regarding the song's origin. Most all my tracks on SoundCloud are private and I share the link with you guys or bandmates. However, I went ahead and added some of your suggestions to the private track...
