Which model was that? A friend of mine gave me a Polytone 104 Maxibrute yesterday. Hasn't been turned on in over thirty years. Got to clean it up a bit later, and see if it still works.

Polytone 401 Maxibrute

oddly it was the 104
I know when I posted it on CL -- gosh 6 years ago or so now-- I had Jazz guys from New Orleans and ATLANTA emailing wanting it--
it was VERY MUCH like a Jazz Chorus - -built like a tank weighted a TON -- this is NOT mine but a google photo showing the controls

I saw that -- -welcome to the collective-- NOW you need a 70's or 80's era PEAVEY guitar or bass to round out your PEavey-fication --
ya know..been lookin at the specs on the PV bass.....always liked the heavy solid guitars with the sustain... been in studios on bass for so long with a fender p..know it exactly in the mix into an ampeg..same with jazz...that 5 position Mid selector is very well thought out for changing basses on Ampeg. Have an ibby for live work(mostly metal bands)that active eq lets me bury annoying guitarist's..them dang guitarists & singers..whats up with them..always show boating..lol

eSG..Holy Crap..slapped an offer on Ebay for a Peavey Ultra 60...got it...my friend had one,,it can do things,,,very nasty things like a 5150..then it can annoy may neighbors with the solo to freebird being played at super loud levels...i have a very nasty song to do..1 more more from the gutter have 11's on the Firebird ready for the task.,,,some times you just have to palm mute in drop C until your are satisfied with the brootz for another few weeks...just can not be in a guitar buying mode when the brootz come to town...way to radical of a gear shift..lol

I had one of those, as a backup to my Laney, in the 90s. Solid stuff. Plenty of gain on tap.

Good stuff. got it to sit with VK2..i know what is going live now when we get to..can set those PV's up so easy so consistent live...think in a way..might be going full circle..love a guitar into a cranked amp..no frills...hey which laney you run? I had a laney pro bass rig with the matching 2x15 ported cab..not very deep .light ..very good sound,,never should of let it go..head had pre, post & Equalizer in it. My guitar player that band had a Laney AOR..holy moly was it an animal in a dif way..i would think that & a marshall would of been perfect in a 2 guitar band..out of eachothers way in the mix

I still have my old AOR 50. Our bassist also had a Laney Pro Bass rig, probably like yours. He still has the cab, but it needs some work to sort out a few rattles.

Old amps are cool.
Here's a few of the oddballs I've had over the years.

Found this old 1949 National on Craigslist. Pretty sure it was made by Valco in Chicago.
All it needed was a new leather handle.

This 1950 ish Magnatone had a way cool grille cloth back in the day.
3215_1064837590460_4450512_n.jpg
But it had deteriorated so much the speaker was bound up to the point that it would buzz from all the fuzz.
So I replaced it with more modern material.
It was also covered in spiffy mother of toilet seat material. Pretty sure it came with a matching lap steel when new.

But the original was saved for posterity.

Mid to late 60's Univox U45B. Don't even remember what happened to this one.
Must have gotten traded for something.

I go thru amps like I go thru beer.
Or does the beer go thru me?
