13 coats, it's getting there.
I think it looks damn good buddyI know one thing, I will never ever try do do a Tru-oil finish on maple again! I can not get it to go on without streaking no matter what technique I use. This is my 4th attempt at tru-oiling maple and it always does the same thing. It was looking good until about the 20th coat and then it all went to. It looks like it's been applied with a paint brush. Well, I'm just going to stop before it gets any worse. I still think it looks better than it did before so I'm good with it.

I do not use tru oil varnish myself, but have you done any sanding between coats? It doesn't look that bad to me btw.I know one thing, I will never ever try do do a Tru-oil finish on maple again! I still like itThanks, Mitch, but I posted the couple of shots I took without a reflection. Here's another and you can see where the light reflects it's not smooth.

Still looks pretty good to me. If you wanna glass it out you could spray? Another thing I do with wipe on poly is rag it on with folded cloth and then immediately (in clean non dusty area etc) hit it with a clean hair dryer to "melt" the clear on to eliminate flatten it out. Here are some more pics in different light. This is more how it actually looks color wise. I guess it looks pretty good really, I'm just a perfectionist and this isn't up to my normal standards. I wanted a glassy finish, but it's not in the cards because I'm all out of patience on this one and I need to wrap this up and put it back together so I can pack up my bench, I'm getting ready to move soon.

Right on! As I did say it looks pretty nice to me!Maybe, but I don't have any spray equipment except a airbrush that I just acquired and I won't be experimenting on this, lol. I'm not doing anything else to it, just going to put it back together in a couple of days and play the hell out of it!
I probably could, but I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is.Electric buffer and some fine rubbing compound?
One last thing I find crucial for a guitar (whether I built it or not) is to rub the neck and body on your face. For me it improves tone a great deal. Trust me, please do it right away!I probably could, but I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is.
