Reaper or Audacity?

So @Far Rider those 1/4 inch outputs should be TRS jacks that output a line level signal. The monitors that have been mentioned so far are “powered monitors”….they have amplifiers built in. Typically, the smaller monitors lack a bit of bass capability….that’s probably why @Sp8ctre has a subwoofer. Small rooms generally do well with appropriately sized monitors. If you’re working in a small room, smaller speakers will do ok. If you’re working with a lot of bass frequency sources(bass and drums), a subwoofer will help in that scenario.

well Ill stoke one up for Audacity -- I use it -- because -- its stupid simple ---Im stupid and I can SIMPLY record and save a tone
like this :
which took all of 5 minutes to dial in the MEsa Model on AMpero -- open Audacity -- hit record -- export-- upload and whamo ----

yes -- its crap-- but hey IT TOOK 5 min.... TOTAL ........ Imagine what someone with talent and an hour or two could accomplish...

and its FREE -- both Audacity and soundcloud ..... and both have more features and functions than I WILL EVER TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN TO USE! ....so why spend $$$

Very nice Demo Adrian!!! and sounded tasty..

I too downloaded reaper....

its good stuff for sure -- but way more complex and involved than Audacity --- Im not Phil Spector -- I just want to record the occasional noodle/model and trick ya'll into thinking it s a MESA ....or vice versa --- ya just never know ..............

I own a copy of Reaper and it's not free. It's also a lot harder to use than Audacity. Notice where it says download AND evaluate? You are supposed to pay for it you like it and keep using it...

If I decide I like it, I might pay for it ;)

But because I'm an extreme amateur, I have made only a few recordings with it. I have liked the results. I am not against paying, but I am still enjoying my trial period.

For now, it's free, unless I decide to dive into the depths of serious production.
If you are familiar with my posts here regarding recording, you'll notice that I actually despise it lolol

Reaper.

Technically it's not free, but it's unlimited trial. I paid for it after a year, $60.

The trial is now 60 days. If you run it longer it asks for you key to be verified.

I'm not giving anyone a hard time. If you want to run it forever for free it's no issue with me.

I was just stating the fact they expect you to pay if you keep using after a trial period...

Yep…the “nag screen” is there to guilt you into purchasing an appropriate license.
$60 seems pretty fair, IMO, considering the amount of useful tools in the box…I hardly ever use any 3rd party effects anymore…just EZDrummer, if that counts. I’ve been able to find anything that I have needed in Reaper’s effects selection.
