Did some re-mastering to this demo we recorded here at my home last year. I re-tracked some of the guitar parts to make them sound bigger and tried to get a better overall balance in the mix, so that it would sound good on any device it was listened to upon.

Its tough to get a good volume balance between the into keyboard section (which i play on guitar) and the song intro.

It sounds very balanced on studio monitors, but not balanced on earbuds!!!!

Ok,

So I been really agonizing over this and wanting to get the mix as good as I possibly can. My goal is, that when you listen to it, you are transported into the song and enveloped in all of the musical nuances. I am also struggling agaist an ear that mixes almost everything in a 'guitar dominant' fashion.

I started off by copying (duplicating) the main drum track and splitting them so the drums are left and right at 40% and 60% respectively. This gives a fuller spectrum of sound to the ear. I also added light reverb on one drum track and ran the other one totally dry.

Next I re-tracked two more bass tracks, for a total of 4 bass tracks, panned left and right at 40%/60%/80% & 100%. I also EQ'd each track slightly differently. This also gives the listener 'layers' of sound to engage the ear.

I balanced the volume between the intro and the start of the rhythm guitars...

Increased volume on some of the guitar parts that were 'hidden' in the background...

And pulled all the reverb off the ending guitar phrase, to give the song an abrupt, and almost unexpected exit.

THEN.....

I thought, what if I added two more rhythm guitar tracks, for a total of 6, but in a lower register, and what if I brought the volume up on the guitars in the quieter sections???? What if I spread the guitars out across a wider spectrum??? What if I added two more bass tracks in a different register???

So, I did all of those things...... :)

Dont be rediculous

This is like version 10.0 - but TBTH - the high & low register guitars just total transformed the song....there are now 6 rhythm guitar tracks, two separate drum tracks and 4 bass guitar tracks, in different registers.

The 'clean' guitar parts were recorded on my 1987 Squirecaster with a DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Solo and YJM in the #4 position.

The high register guitar tracks were recorded last year on my 2016 Gibson Les Paul.

The low register tracks added today were played on my 2016 Schecter C1 FR

ALL of the 'keyboard sections' are played on guitar.
