Here's one of our latest tracks for you guys to check out. I wrote this at the lunch table at fender on one of my 15 minute breaks, about two weeks ago. The song was born when our drummer gave me the lyric idea when he said "we are all livin on borrowed time" during a conversation. He also suggested several phrases that appear in the song.
Equipment used:
Steinberg UR22C USB Interface
Mac Pro running Cubase 9.5
Roland TD50K2 Drum Kit
2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard Gold Top (bridge pickup Burstbucker 3 tones/volumes full-up)
Blackstar ID-Core 100 Guitar Amp Direct Out (clean setting with room reverb only)
Ibanez (Import) GSR-190 bass with .105" Ernie Balls
Fender Rumble 40 Bass Amp Direct-Out
The vocals were recorded in a single take on a pair of Peavey PVM-328 Drum Microphones arranged in a 'V' pattern and connected to a Steinberg UR22C USB Interface and dedicated left and right respectively. Thsi is what gives the vocals a left/right stereo feel.
From inception, we hoped to keep this song very much a live recording. It has an unusual and constantly varying time signature and we made no effort to try and "tame it" or otherwise polish it with multiple re-takes and/or studio tricks. It's as close to a one-take live recording as we could muster up.
The guitars and vocals were recorded simultaneously. A second guitar track was recorded after the original and both appear panned left and right. The solo was composed and recorded in a single take after the fact and it as played on the neck pickup (BB1) of my 2021 Gibson Gold Top with volumes and tones rolled off to fatten the tone.
The Blackstar settings for the solo were 'Crunch' channel, gain at noon and all EQ's at 3pm.
Have a listen and post your thoughts...
Notes: This song was produced entirely by us and was independent of our current work with our producer.
