R.I.P. Ozzy

I was 12 - visiting the Provo/Orem area one summer (in 1981)- and was invited by an older group of scouts on a camping trip deep up in the back country in the mountains above SLC. One of those nights I was laying in my sleeping bag staring up at the incredible Milky Way and somebody handed me his (then new) Sony Walkman and said "put this headset on and press play". I laid there and listened to Blizzard of Oz in it's entirety and was just blown away. I'd never heard anything like that. It absolutely mesmerized me. Hearing that that night.... changed me. Things would not be the same after that.

I went home to Newport Beach, CA and begged my parents for an electric guitar.

Good story, I only have a couple of memories of when I heard a song for the first time. One of them is when I heard crazy train. And yes it affected me quite a bit.

My memory of Ozzy goes back a bit further, Anaheim Stadium 1978 , one of the shows before the break up. Once Blizzard was out I of course had to see them . I had seen Randy do a show with Quite Riot.

I was also at Anaheim for that show, and Boston had some malfunction of their equipment.

And I never could understand how they were the headliners for that show..

Because I was a big Sabbath fan.

I caught the Blizzard of OZZ tour at the Swing Auditorium.
And got to chat with Rudy trying to get a chance at meeting Randy.

Awesome, I would imagine Boston headlined due to their overwhelming popularity at that time, even now. My son listens to Boston.
Van Halen was up there, what ever album they had out.

I believe Boston, and Van Halen only had their first album’s out at the time.
But I could be wrong.
