Pumpkin Carving has begun once more ( Update 1st Place Winner))

I was actually going to try carving one this year, but depression is a beast and I lost motivation. I was thinking about a skull and crossbones or something along those lines, but I've never carved a pumpkin like that and just don't want to learn right now. All I've ever done is the typical eyes, nose and mouth cutout. Maybe next year...*sigh*
Hope ya feel better soon my friend. Always hear to listen if you ever wanna talk! Aint much but it helps sometimes

If you DO decide to carve one, they are a lot easier than you'd imagine. Just a cheapo carving kit works wonderful

Nah, I’ll stick to Ace ventura ;)
Halloween is 2nd only to Christmas in the US for festivities, decorations and people going all out. Watching the movie, Halloween, around this time is like watching It's A Wonderful Life, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Charlie Brown Christmas, A Christmas Story or even National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and Home Alone around Christmas time: its paramount man lol

I would also accept Its The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown because im a perpetual child at heart lol

Do you find a pattern or stencil first? That is absolutely unreal. Fantastic.
Thank you so much my friend!

How i do these is finding a stencil and transferring it. I go to either Zombie Pumpkins for a standard cutout or Stoneykins for a 3 shade/shave pattern. If its a cutout, i print a piece of paper, tape it to the pumpkin and then use a scratch awl to punch hole a series of small holes though the paper and into the pumpkin, all around the marked cut area.

If its a shade design, i print off the stencil and then use Saral Transfer paper between the pumpkin and the stencil, retrace it with a pen, then marking which area is a cut or shave spot.

Well, I managed to pull off a repeat!

But, I am now feeling it as a shallow win honestly and I really am contemplating not even taking the prize. I will explain.

Last year, i entered nearly at the end of the competition and thought by looking at the other pumpkins that were entered plus previous years, that i probably wouldn't even place. I was really shocked to have won.

This year however, i entered early and didnt see anyone else's, so i assumed the same as last year. Unfortunately, while there were actually MORE entries this year than before, i found out most people scaled back their carving designs. Here is 1st, 2nd and 3rd Adult and you'll see what i mean.

A few others decided to go into not Carved Pumpkins exactly by the definition, but the creative extreme pumpkin designs which were awesome. They created a new category for these on the spot since it would've been ridiculous to exclude them. Honestly, i would've preferred they'd been judged in the same group as the Adult Carved and I would've felt better competing with them and honestly? I would've probably lost!
