PRS upgrade: BK Nantucket soundclip.

So, is this a good time to mention that my wife bought me my Taylor 415CE, my Washburn HB-30, my 2006 USA Diamond Anniversary Stratocaster, my 2007 Les Paul Custom, and my 2014 SG Original 2?

No?

Okay...I won't then...

Perfect timing Smitty.

And.. it puts an exclamation point on my original point which basically is that no serious musician / guitarist needs a woman that feels compelled to control how many instruments you have. They either are on your side & 'get you', as in: loves & accepts you for who you are, or they are working against you with their own agenda.

It is simply best for us as musicians & guitarists to recognize the quality women for us. Smitty's wife gets it, my wife gets it & on & on it goes with the list of guitarist / musicians with understanding women behind them supporting them.

My point also was that burgeoning guitarist absolutely need to recognize this problem when it is a control problem & set things straight before it's too late!

Binary views such as this are just ignorant; issues are complex, people have different situations and different views... Cheap insults are dumb...

Personally, I like guitars and playing them, but I live and work abroad in a small apartment for a limit number of years to save money - I have a small house, but I'd also like to have a small home somewhere in Europe, and I'm saving towards that end. I have been known to lose sight of the main goal and spend too much money on guitars and other stuff, plus we have very little space, so the wife rightly points this out.

Baby Boomers tend to lose sight of the fact that they've massively benefited from the global house boom of the last 50 years or so - leaving folks in their 40s and under to have a much harder time of things. Also, my pension was raped by the banks, so I have very little there - I get paid for research, so playing guitar for fun now and then is fine, but doing it all the time and building up a stable of guitars is dumb of me. Gotta work and save those $$$...

I will give the PRS a bit more time to grow. But, the SG is by far my favourite in every way.

BTW, the next door neighbour moved out at the weekend and left behind a Cort strat for me! :ROFLMAO:

Binary views such as this? Cheap insults? You're the one who said..
The missus is complaining about me having 3 guitars,

You may call me ignorant but I'll quickly be compelled to point out the fact that you're obviously P-Whipped & can't handle being called on it, otherwise you would have laughed it off instead of trying to vilianize me or de-legitimize my point. That's that repressed anger I was talking about coming out to the surface man. It really hurts don't it? Like digging up ugly $#it ya got buried because you don't like it & don't want to see it, think about it, smell it oroterwise deal with it. Maybe this anger would be better directed at the person really responsible.? I certainly didn't tell you to get rid of anything that is yours. I just pointed out the fact that your wife did.

My point is valid & any marriage counselor or therapist worth their salt understands this marital / relationship power dynamic. Frankly saying I'm ignorant would mean I don't understand these complexities & issues. I do, I just need to & choose to live differently &, laugh at the guys that are bossed around by their wives, especially when it comes to the little woman telling hubby bubby how many guitars they can have. LOL Because that 2nd home is more important to her right?? You don't even see it do you? But maybe you do....

Controlling relationship aren't healthy & control is usually a sign of abuse. Here's some important things to ask yourself.....................

Do you find yourself apologizing for or defending her behavior? (oh, I can answer that one. seen it right here)
Do you always do what she tells you to do even when it means not doing something you want to do?
Have you lost touch with family & friends & do you think your partner wanted to separate & isolate so it's easier to control?
Do you find yourself sexually uncomfortable & forced into things you don't like, don't feel good or even hurt you?
Do you feel scared how your partner will act?
Do you feel responsible for your partners behavior?
Do you believe it's all your fault?
Do you avoid anything that may cause potential conflict that may anger your partner?
Do you believe it is all your fault?
Do you feel like your partner is never satisfied with you?
Do you always do what she wants to do instead of what you want?
Do you stay with this person because you are afraid of what will happen & what she'll do if you break up?
Are you being subjected to yelling, screaming, using degrading & oe demeaning language?
Is there withholding affection, finances or anything else they think you might need?
Is there hitting, kicking, shoving punching or physical pain being inflicted?

One spouse controlling the other is seldom ever a good thing. No, I'm actually far from ignorant when it comes to couples & relationships. I've actually had lots of training & education in that arena. I'm certainly not just talking out my a$$. I am aware & when I see things like..
The missus is complaining about me having 3 guitars,
The fvk'ng alarm bells go off mister!
Maybe you need some self awareness? Maybe read a book or a short on-line article on marital relationships, controlling relationships, abusive etc whatever. It's all out there at your googling fingertips.

One person controlling another persons possessions is usually just one part of a broader abusive relationship. Maybe that aint you, but all we have to go on is what you write here & that has been...
The missus is complaining about me having 3 guitars,

You're the one who put your $#it out there for everybody to read & comment on. Now you want to get pissy? Ya Grumpy bassturd ya. Great name for you Mr Grumpy!

Now call me some more names & try to insult because you don't like what I have to say!
I bet you're one of those aintcha?

I notice things with married couples that seem to spell misery for one of them. One partner answers for both - normally her. When it comes to movies, music etc., she will normally say "We like...". That translates into English as "I like, and he has to go along with it..."

I only know of two couples where I can genuinely say that 1 + 1 is greater than 2. For the most part 1 + 1 = about 0.7, because even when one is dominant, both suffer from the resulting misery.

The only situation where 1 + 1 = about 5 is checkin at the airport. I can be through in about a minute, but it will take any couple at least ten.

:pound-hand: :osnap: P:lol:

Maybe the worst part is when folks are in denial. Some even recognize this lopsided power dynamic but don't care because they think they need it. Their spousal defense & excuses are something like, (said with a Thurston Howell the III voice)
''My lovey keeps me in line with her harping & telling silly ol me what to do. Why, is it weren't for my little love bug & her complaining, Lord only knows what trouble I would get myself into!''. ''Oh Gilligan, I say my good man, be a sport and pass the Grey Poupon? "

When I see that I can't help but think that she has a little plush lined purse that she's carrying around his ballz in. Along with his manhood, pride, dignity, self esteem & self respect!

Ball purse / nut bag??

upload_2017-4-26_17-53-48.png

Meh... so cold looking..

upload_2017-4-26_17-56-27.jpeg

OK, warmer but..... neh..

Wait, I think I spotted a spouse carrying her hubby's manhood in a fuzzy warm ball purse right here!

upload_2017-4-26_18-1-27.png

That's right, she's just gonna hold on to them man ballz because her husband don't need them!
Looks like this is catching on! Careful fellas!

upload_2017-4-26_18-8-34.jpeg

Hey, this chick looks like she's divided & conquered! She's got one fur each ball! (lol 1 fur each lol)

upload_2017-4-26_17-57-55.jpeg

She may be entertaining the idea of letting her man someday have one of these to try for a while to see if he's properly trained yet!

Rut Row! Whazzat?!?

upload_2017-4-26_18-12-49.png

Well this looks pretty form fitting & snuggy eh?

upload_2017-4-26_18-14-44.png

And this guy only wishes somebody would carry his...

Ri i i i i ght....

Relic, what's wrong with you, man???

Calm down and talk about guitars. :rolleyes2:

Back on topic - playing the PRS more to try and get used to it, and the pickup is sweet; very articulate and bites when you give the strings a bit of energy. If I can work out how to use the recording sw and can passably play a couple of things righthanded then I'll add some clips.

If I sell the PRS then I will proably put the original pickup back in and keep the BK P90 (although, I'm thinking another 1-2k in output may be perfect, so perhaps a supermassive 90 would be absolute perfection?).

In my opinion, since it is already a one trick pony, if you go too hot, you will limit it further. You can always add boost if you like. Keep the current pup in there

^ that is a good point. &, while it's here with the SG it doesn't need to rock my socks off as the SG does that. If the PRS was my only guitar I'd want a bit more output, but it's a very nice sweet tone to have alongside the RnR SG (I love the 490R).

Those Leo Quan Badasses use bigger intonation screws that the rest of the wrap arounds so i didnt have any the right size layin around. Our local ACE hardware store has lots of set screws.think they even carry some stainless ones.ill put it on my to do list.

Unless you get the right pup that responds nicely to simply being rolled back with the volume knob. Then you have the best of both worlds.

A responsive tube amp can also go a long way toward bringing out useful dynamics in playing volume & intensity too & combined with the right pickup can offer a broad pallet of expression, inflection & tone.

The trick is finding a pickup that sounds awesome at full volume & doesn't got flat or flaccid when you do roll back on the volume.

I'm not into P-90 pups so I have zero pups suggestions, just the suggestion not to rule out pups because they are hot sounding at full volume until you hear what they do & sound like backing off on things a bit.

I wear the pants in my family....

My wife just tells me which ones to wear.

Oh yeah Grant! That means its time for...

'The Man Song' !!!

Hah! ''The sooner You learn who's Boss around here..
the sooner you can give me my orders dear..'

"I'm the King of this castle..
until you get home..'

'He's the Man! .. He's the Man!'

Rodney Carrington is a funny Mo Fo,.. yo. LOL

The PRS has just been upgraded with a Bare Knuckle Nantucket.

View attachment 4193

No complexity here, just functionality.

Here's a clip of how she sounds now:
https://soundcloud.com/user-680211663/prs-clip1

Not me playing, a colleague who has been guitarless for a few weeks, so I lent him the PRS to mess around with, and he put the Nantucket in and set her up for me. He reckons that the BK Nantucket sounds great.

Let me know your thoughts...

Edit to add: that clip was just a phone recording of the guitar being played out of a Blackstar Fly BASS amp! I will try to do a Focusrite/Audacity recording and post that.
Well not to get back on topic or anything, but Boo, I like it. I especially love the fret board and inlays. I did not know that PRS made a LP shape body.
