Proximity Interference???

Ok, not sure this is a real term, but it's a real phenomena...

"Proximity Interference???" While recording recently, I ran a Dunlop Wah with two patch cables - all by themselves - on a track for hire. I noticed a slight noise with the 'pancake' cables that was absent with straight cables. I discovered that by wrapping the hot terminal and lining the inside cover with Scotch Super 33+ Insulating Tape eliminated the noise.

I made a similar discovery on a Les Paul where the hot terminal of the jack was in very close proximity to the shielding in the jack cavity. Everything tested ok for shorts. The issue was found to be the relatively close proximity between the hot and shield. A single strip of this tape eliminated the noise completely.
