^ Exactly. You would probably cringe if you heard yourself back then today and you would have cringed back in the day. Likely because it was cringeworthy and that's why you kept it to yourself. Same here, though I do - if I want - have the 'joy' of being able to listen back to early recordings. Brrr... [cringes].

I don't think he's under the impression that he's teaching anyone, more just sharing his progress with the world. There's nothing wrong with that, but I do agree he would be better off investing in learning than sharing.

Pffffft! All of the cringeworthy songs I have ever posted here at TTR were recorded 20 to 40 years ago. Why would I ever keep those crappy recordings to myself when the internet has made it possible for me to share?
 
For some reason, it brings to mind something Keith Richards once said to an interviewer.

I wish I could find the interview, but the interviewer said something to the effect that Keith has been able to play the guitar in front of millions.

The interviewer asked Keith didn't he think it was sad that most people will only ever play the guitar in their own room.

Keith answered to the effect that he thought it was beautiful that someone would love playing the guitar so much that they just had to play even if their playing never left their own room.

While I have never inflicted my lousy playing on anyone outside my room, I can't help but admire anyone willing to put their playing in front of other people, no matter what it may sound like.

If it brings that young guy (or anyone else) happiness or a sense of accomplishment to put his videos on YouTube, in all sincerity I say "good for him."

I am as well a bedroom player. As long as I impress myself, the rest of you knuckle heads don’t matter. :rolf:

Several years ago…. For about 10 years…. I did play acoustic guitar for the church’s worship team. It did help make me a better guitar player. Primarily because it forced me to practice. It also supplied the “fix” for playing in a group in front of people. Checked that off the list and won’t need to do it again.

I was speaking of video evidence…like…there was no digital photography/video back then…no one would waste filmstock/videotape on a dweeb like me, back then. Digital?…well…that’s cheap now, and there are cameras in way more hands…perfectly willing to capture the moments. Like it or not.

This isn’t a discussion on recording here….this is the “pretty funny” thread. Let’s keep it that way, please and thank you.
