Practice, Practice, Practice:

I've always been up early, but lately I have made better use of my time. Every morning - beginning about 3 or 4am during the week - I run through our setlist 4 or 5 times, working on smoothness and making sure my parts are rock solid.

After that, I will pick out a new (to me) song - just about anything - and learn it. This morning's song was "Long Cool Woman" by The Hollies....

What's your regiment????

I like to make my practice mostly improvised, usually around a theme. If I hear myself dropping into cliche patterns, I'll work out how to change it. Other than that, I'll run through some complete tunes - usually classically based with strong melody and work on phrasing and timing.

Great approach!!!!!!!

How do you not wake up your family?

I practice 2 hours every day, I start by doing hand and finger stretches and exercises. Then I do a few scales , then I improvise and I just go through many chords, some notes and slides, working on my speed and accuracy. Then I play some songs and some singing. Continuing to work on songs I know, and start working on a new one.

I'll be looking forward to it!

In case you missed the concept behind it - the idea revolves around hack's recent Bigsby install on a Firebird Zero.

Here's the original video and my concept lyrics...

Maybe ....someday, saved by zero
I'll put....one together
Stretched by 'G' Strings....thoughts that....leave me
Chasing after.......12 Strings....disown me.....Floyd...Rose...Danger
Maybe I'll Sin (Bigsby zero)
Holding...onto....tones that reach me
I will...conquer.....tones around me
So maybe I'll win (saved by zero)
Maybe I'll Sin (Bigsby zero)
Maybe I'll win (saved by zero)
Maybe use gold trim (Bigsby zero)
So maybe I'll Sin (Bigsby zero)
Maybe I'll win (saved by zero)
Maybe I'll Sin (Guitar Hero)
Who needs gold trim (Bigsby zero)
Saved by, saved by, save-saved by zero
Saved by, saved by, save-saved by zero
Saved by, saved by, save-saved by zero (Bigsby zero)
Saved by, saved by, save-saved by zero
Saved by, saved by, save-saved by zero
Saved by zero (saved by, saved by, saved-a-Bigsby zero)

Couple of years back, I recorded a vocal parody of Kim Jong Il's song "I'm So Ronery" to the official movie backing soundtrack. It started off as a joke, just something I did for my oldest son's birthday, but somebody 'upstairs' heard it and it opened to the door to work on TV and movie soundtracks.

I dug it up in case you guys want to hear it.

NSFW The 'F' word is used at the beginning

Here's the original from the movie:

And my parody:

"I'm So Ronrey" Team America Parody

I generally practice scales, patterns, etc while sitting and watching tv with the wife. I used to practice a lot, even when working full time, but anymore I pretty much play what I feel like when I feel like it - lol. I'm always open to new stuff. But, ya, that's about it anymore (at least for the mean time)...
