powertubes............does it matter?

you got me ---I paid 50 for the PEavey ----but @CabanaBoy included a Bandit 112 amp--some assembly required ;)

So the Orange tone came from a VOX hybrid modeling bit of tech and a computer ap ----one of these........Im toying with the idea of cutting it down and making just a head ---I never ever never use the speaker in it ---so ....real estate in the doom room being at a premium ..........it might get sawed in half and rebuilt in the coming cooler winter months

I'm seriously thinking about recovering the Crate as a winter project. I think it would look nice in black.

It's a Blue Voodoo, right? I actually had one of them for a while (the cab, not the amp) and it was as well-built and sounded as good as my Recto cab. Seriously underrated piece of gear. I say go for it, they are keepers - and I wish I kept mine.

oh this will piss some folks off .......................but -- it is littered with good information sorta between the typical Groovy Grove gabblagook

yes....its long...............its Scott Grove...............
I only watched through a little of this, & sure, there was some good info given,,, also some inaccurate statements made too (I've seen some of his tube amp repair clips that contain incorrect statements too).
Making personally biased statements in what is supposed to be an "informative" clip is one thing, but making blanket statements like more Marshalls are on the shop workbench & the Marshalls we do see on stage aren't working & have a Fender or solid state amp working behind them just go to show how much stock we can put in this guys "info".
What does piss me off is (so called) internet amp gurus putting out incorrectness that people take to be accurate information. Cheers

Yes, it is a Blue Voodoo. I put the Celestions from the 1960b in it. The 1960b got Greenbacks and Vintage 30's.

yes as I said in the post --- this will piss some folks off........

Ive not seen a Scott Grove video reposted that didnt ---

He is by no means as important as he thinks he is --- if you take him as "entertainment" (he must not hate marshalls to much he has a stack of them RIGHT there--) and not his "word is gospel" ....then it all comes out in the wash.......

I lost interest and wondered off to chase the dogs around the yard....(entertaining AND excersiseful) ;)

so there was SOMETHING usefull in there then?

And tbth @ivan H I started watching as I thought he might explain the .... CAN I RUN A 4 0hm head into and 8 ohm speaker question that plagues my daily life and has had me using malox at 3 am.
And frankly I dont think he did...............................again.....dogs....yard.....running about in the dark......tripping over Chihuahuas .......etc etc

Lol yeah this dude drags his ass in explanations. But yeah, you can go 4ohm head into a 8ohm cab

Regarding "mismatching" the amps output impedance/cabinet nominal impedance, some amps handle this better than others, depending on the design of the power amp, output transformer etc etc. There are a few "rules of thumb" that we can go by to help out regarding mismatching.
Always mismatch "up", where the cabinets nominal impedance is higher than the amp's output impedance.
Avoid mismatching more than 100%.
So 4 ohms output on the amp into an 8 ohm cab is considered "within acceptable limits" if you are going to mismatch.
Doing this will make the output tube "see" or "work into" twice the load impedance that they normally would, which will limit current some. Hope this helps. Cheers

uhm............now see that didnt take 48 minutes and I didnt even have to think about WATTS or RMS's -- or little lambs eating ivy ......

THANKS IVAN!

so 4 head to 8 cab "o.k." -- still not "the best" -- but functional -- 8 0hm amp into 4 0hm cab.....mucho el badd-O (sorry my Canadian is a bit off ) wait no that would be franch .......or --- uhm---whats a Franco American side dish ? also WHY does it sound french but is in fact a pseudo Italian food?

what was this damn thread about anyway?

Yes, that's it. Just as running the 4 ohm (amp) output into an 8 ohm cab will limit output tube plate current, running the 8 ohm (amp) output into a 4 ohm cab will allow too much output tube plate current to flow, possibly frying the output tubes &/or more. Cheers
