Standing outside of the Chicago Symphony Hall after the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra played a week ago. Eldest granddaughter who'd just finished playing trombone in said Youth Symphony standing between Grandma and Grandpa. The young lady is a third generation trombone player. I played. Her Dad and Uncle played. And now she plays t-bone. And for the record. Shes the best of the four of us.

Musically, she is a total talent. Besides trombone. She's teaching herself guitar and keyboards. She sings.... any part she wants. AND... she has perfect pitch. You can play a note and she can tell you if its a B or a B flat.... and be correct.

Very nice ! I can relate, my oldest daughter was in a Jazz band at 10 on trumpet, can drum very good & has that perfect pitch !! How did i miss them genes? lol have to fight for everything that comes out of me musically,. Go off purely emotion but sure wish could understand it all better

Equal opportunity. This is our oldest Grandson. Last year he and his sister played in the same Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. He played in the same one this year as last, while his sister played in the top CYSO. He will most likely move up to the top one next year or his senior year.... he's a sophomore this year. Bassoon is his instrument. Talented like his sister. From the time he could barely walk he's always had a great sense of timing. We all figured he'd be a percussionist..... as he was driving everyone nuts anytime he got a couple pencils in his hands. To point. This year he was sitting directly behind a kid that had some solo work in one song. Kid kept trying to rush it.... so to help, my grandkid pounded his foot against the other kids chair to help him with his timing.
