Popularity of SG's

Yeah Ive noticed a big shift towards them in recent years. They seem to do that a lot: go thru a period of overlooking then become THE guitar to own. I think a lot of their charm is they can attract potential Les Paul buyers who don't want to splurge but want that fat Gibson sound without the added weight. Funny thing about them: they are Gibson's greatest selling guitar model and the only one in their catalog to never cease production since they debuted in 1960

SGs have always been an excellent choice. Over the years, they have always cost significantly less than anything on Gibson's roster. They are lightweight, and sound great with P-90s or humbuckers. So many options of body, neck, and fingerboard options over the years, that there is just about anything for anybody.

I must admit that SGs are my guitar of choice. Hanging a 10+ lb guitar on my shoulder is too much work. I play for fun and I don't get paid to play. I personally also prefer the looks of a SG over a LP, Strat or Tele. I have a few guitars and 3 of them have horns. Anyone here remember the 6 horn club?

Have you noticed a change in SG popularity lately? I'm watching them on our version of CL and they just seem to fly off from there almost as soon as they are listed.

HAHA ASTRAL. Great Observation.
I love ALL styles of guitars. My first was an LP. Next came some Strats, Always loved ES 335's, and even Tele's.
After missing out on a BFG Les paul on Ebay, I managed to score a 1987 3 knob SG. I loved it and was smitten since 2012. Now I have 4 SG's

When I decided it was time for an electric after having only an acoustic for something like 30+ years..... being the type of person that likes to have something different..... and since everyone I knew had either a Strat, a Tele or a LP..... the choice was obvious. SG. So for myself a used G400.

And besides. If an SG was good enough for some no names like: Angus, Tony, Frank, Derek and for short periods..... Eric and Pete... well, it was good enough for this hack.
