Pop goes the poly!

I had this video of my dad shooting the first coat of poly to our family build guitar. I figured I would post it to Youtube. I picked some generic music they offered to cover the family commotion! We shot it with a spray called U-Pol.

This is an old video from my Family build "Gene" I will post a thread on it.

I think that once you give up on the idea of tone wood, nitro ceases to make sense IMHO.

I was thinking more along the lines of how a guitar feels and how nitro ones age vs how poly guitars do. Kind of the more plasticky feel of a Poly guitar and the way Poly kind of cracks or chips vs a Nitro guitar and the other characteristics moreso than the "tone wood" idea.

Nice video though and sweet guitar body, bro Ray.

The neck is satin finish. I prefer the possibility of poly chips since they are easily repairable. Although some look forward to nitro "cracking" and yellowing for that vintage appearance, I would love it if my guitars look like the day they were purchased 50 years later. Also, poly does not react to rubber, etc.

You've been holding out on me Ray! You didn't tell me that you (and dad) were building guit-box! Deets, brother!

Disagree. The nitro finish is incomparable, IMHO, but, that said, I may not spray it on the V, mainly because I don't have a spark-proof vent van for my spray booth and they are bloody expensive.

DEW

Benefits?
Hardness, clarity and feel all seem superior to me. But that's mostly subjective. I'm not saying it's necessarily objectively better, but I don't think ending the tone wood debate ends the nitro debate necessarily.

But keep in mind that I still believe in tone wood, which is out of character for me. I guess I just want to believe it. Who knew I had something in common with creationists and climate deniers?
