Interesting. That’s the thing, when I put a Vibrola on my 2005 SG special a couple of years back, I don’t remember tgere being grounding issues, even though I never Hooked the ground back up after removing the stop tailpiece.

After giving this a few seconds of thought, I guess I can't run the grounding wire to the bridge posts, because I use nylon saddles. Kind of pointless then, isn't it? From looking in the control cavity it seems like the ground wire runs to the tailpiece. I could probably find a way to connect the wire already in the stop bar hole toa wire running to the bottom of the Vibrola somewhere without being visible. Or does anyone have a really clever solution for this?

Or, as JohnnyGoo is saying, it might not become an issue at all...
 
You can remove one of the bridge bushings in the same manner your will remove the tail piece bushings, put the ground in, and replace the bushing if you can safely route a hole into the bushing from the cavity

There are no bridge bushings on the Derek Trucks. It has an ABR bridge where the posts are screwed directly into the wood. And as stated above, I have nylon saddles on the bridge, so I guess there would be no connection to the strings if I run the wire to the bridge.

Is the 'bottom plate' functional in any way as a vibrola or just 100% cosmetic? Will it connect to/with the 'top plate' bit of the 'short vibrola hinging element'? Does the top bit just slip under to be held in place by the fixed bottom piece? (Rather than the screws into the body of the short vibrola?)
(Making words up as I go along because I do not know what I'm talking about.)

So, by the looks of it, to my very simple mind, the left tailpiece stud hole may be a tad unsightly peeking out from under the vibrola (?), and the right tailpiece stud hole might affect the vibrola screw (?) - a slight design modification of that vibrola would fit into the existing hole(s) - that top piece is quite a little bit of metal, I bet a metal workshop could fabricate that, and pretty cheaply, and I doubt it'd be noticeable unless you were looking for it - specifically, the maestro hinging bit having two small changes: 1) the bar extended half an inch to the left to better cover the bridge stud hole; 2) the vibrola screw moved a tad to the left to fit into the tailpiece stud hole. I mean the beauty of the main lower vibrola piece would be 100% intact, and the top hinge element would look almost identical. Would the changes affect functionality?

If that suggestion/question is really stupid then please just ignore it as I don't know what I'm talking about... :p

I just watched this:


I didn't realize the long vibrola was one piece... I still like my idea of fabricating a top piece to fit into the existing tailpiece holes to secure it while connecting (hooking under?) the existing Derek Trucks cosmetic Maestro plate; no new holes, everything reversible. Not sure about the vibrola functionality though... :io:
